Sarah Palin is a Bitch… there I said it.

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?

Well it’s NOT you girl…

Look.  I am going to say what everyone at CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC is thinking but is afraid to say.  Governor Palin is a stupid, conniving bitch.  And it’s not because she is a strong woman – I like strong women… worship them… It’s actually the opposite.  She is a weak, pathetic woman who thinks big hair,  winking, baby talk and self deprecation is somehow becoming of a woman who wants to lead the free world.  My god, where is Margaret Thatcher when you need her!

But what really makes me mad is the hypocrisy.  She claims to be a Washington outsider and yet is the worst kind of politician.  She will say anything and avoid answering any question instead choosing to spout whatever line or soundbite some adviser put into her mouth a few hours earlier.  And exactly when did sounding like a hick make someone “more like us”.  Last time I checked we were a country striving to educate our children to be intelligent and honest.  I think I would die if my daughter came home from school and said something like “I gotta tell ya.  Change is a comin’.”  At the very least I would remove the Beverly Hillbillies from her approved TV viewing list.

And then there is Alaska.  Have any of you been to Alaska recently?  Although the largest State geographically, it has less than a million people – about 700,000. (The city I live in now is bigger. )Fewer population issues exist for lawmakers to address.  And because they make so much money from the oil companies, the Alaskan government actually gives it citizens an annual dividend check (this year $3,200).  Exactly what Governor wouldn’t be popular under those circumstances? No wonder they can afford to elect a governor who ony has an undergraduate degree in journalism and a few beauty pageant awards.  By the way, when you got that journalism degree did they teach you that some journalists actually ask hard questions like what newpapers do you read?

Fact: Sarah Palin is stupid.  Maybe not stupid by Alabama standards but stupid enough that she managed to get herself elected Governor while never bothering to educate herself on little things like the Constitution, foriegn affairs or appropriate debating practices.  She is stupid enough to have accepted a VP nomination for which she is completely unqualified and stupid enough not to admit it –  even though the future of our great nation could be irreversibly damaged by the decision.

When exactly do we all get to call “bullshit”?

She loves to talk about being a mother but the last time I checked, having your newborn on national TV at 11PM instead of in bed wasn’t considered “good muthering“.  Neither was making your child’s unexpected teen pregnancy the talk of the nation because you desperately wanted to be a politician in Washington DC   – or isn’t that exactly what you said you didn’t want.  From where I sit, it appears you would sell your soul for the position. Kind of the way that Elisabeth girl on The View sold her soul for fame.  Please god get her off the airwaves – she became famous because she ate a rat… but I digress…

Oh and my favorite – my husband Todd (the first dude) and I sit around the kitchen table wondering about the cost of college like many of you…  oh really. Your oldest son went from high school into the military.  Your next oldest is pregnant with plans to be married to some hockey jock at age 17.  Seems to me you’ve got lots of time before you have to worry about college tuition especially being college doesn’t seem to be a priority in your family.

You refuse to give live interviews and then whine when your taped interviews get edited.  Then you have a chance to be live in front of the nation during a debate and you respond by not answering the questions  (proudly not answering the questions I might add) but rather by reading the cue cards given to you by a group of white old men who sold their souls to the political system when you were in…. I don’t know – 2nd grade maybe.  Your insulting to a United States Senator who is so respected that his home state has elected him to office 6 times.  And while I am on the subject of the debate - shame on Gwen Ifell for not making her answer the questions.  Damn I miss Tim Russert.

Sarah Palin is an ignorant, ranting, whining bitch.  There I said it.   But lots more are thinking it.

Please take your ridiculous hair, your over lipstick-smacking mouth, your Lenscrafter look smarter glasses and your poorly fitted designer jackets back to Alaska.   And when you get there, shove a piece of the pipeline up your considerable ass.  I’ll be damned if we’ll put our children’s future in your hands.  And the same thing goes for McCain – the ass wipe who gave her this national platform effectively pushing the woman’s movement back into the dark ages – knowing McCain that might have been his plan all along.

Responses

  1. Bravo, dear! Hopefully we won’t have to worry about her after Nov. 4th. From my keyboard to God’s ears…

  2. Funniest blog I’ve read all year!
Unfortunately, it’s only funny because it’s true!

Keep on dishin’ th’ truth, honey!

  3. Helen, you are one fantastic woman. You articulated the Palin problems PERFECTLY. It was as if you were reading my mind. THANK GOD SOMEONE SAID IT! I do not understand how any woman could support a woman who doesn’t believe in WOMEN’S RIGHTS?! Palin ALMOST makes Bush seem intelligent. Thank you so so much. I really admire your honesty. Frankly, it’s hard to believe you are 82 years old.

  4. Completely agree with you. I think all these people that are saying that she’ll be the best VP ever have a blindfold pulled over their eyes. Obama and Biden are the best candidates right now so I think any true “patriot” should support them regardless of their party. Even some Republican supporters are agreeing that we can’t afford another 4 years of the same garbage.

  5. Completely agree with your posting.

  6. doggonnit! I can’t believe some people actually thinks she’s capable! gosh darn it!

  7. Great blog. However, I am afraid that we’ll be seeing more of her in the future. America is way to racist! We would rather elect a fake and moron!

  8. Oh Honey. If an old woman originally from Georgia can see the light. Anyone can. Have a little faith.

  9. Well put. I heard somebody criticize her constitutional view of the Vice Presidency. I had to disagree, because I am certain that Palin has no idea of what the constitution states. I think she is two cue cards deep on almost any subject because it is obvious she lacks any intellectual content or curiosity.
And now her criticism of the Couric interview is interesting because she could not answer the question of the day about the $700 billion rescue/bailout plan.
What is so offensive, as you note, is that a “shucks I am a country girl” stuff works with a not insignificant portion of the population.

  10. I call bullshit

  11. Amen Helen. This is exactly what myself and other intelligent women think of Palin. She is an embarrassment to us all. And you are right, she is too full of pride to graciously step down. I admire your honesty. I can only hope that peole wake up and see how transparent Palin really is. Thank you for this truthful post.

  12. Helen, I love your mind! You said it all and have set the rest of us free. The emperor has no clothes, and Palin has no brain! God help this country!!

  13. Helen, I admire your frankness. It is amazing to me that most Americans can’t step back and look at the historical arc of the rethuglican party over the last 30 years (oh, I guess most of them are proud of their ignorance and that they don’t read anything anyway…). Reagan acted his way through 8 years of the presidency in an Alzheimer’s daze, and put the first knife into the Constitution (i.e. Iran Contra) that had earlier been saved from the potential depredations of Tricky Dick and Watergate. Then comes GHWB with the bush crime family’s tainted money from the Nazi era (and also the Carlyle Group), who is so out of touch with common people that he has no clue about what a supermarket barcode scanner is. He also introduces the first clueless clot to the VP slot (i.e. Qualye) and pardons all the murderers of the Constitution (Oliver North, Adm Poindexter, etc). Then after 8 yrs of a respite under Clinton, comes the Shrub. Eight years of the snake-oil salesman Shrub have made the US almost uniformly the most hated country around the world, and the rethuglican machine keeps generating more and more stupid candidates for office. About 50 more knives were plunged into the Constitution during this period by Shrub, Cheney and their henchmen, and few Americans said anything (I mean, habeas corpus done away with after 700+ years since the Magna Carta? C’mon!). RIP the Constitution. Next the US already is the laughing stock of the world as the rethuglicans nominate McLiar and the lipsticked Palin pig. What wonders will next emerge from the mushbrains of the rethuglicans? Oh, I know — in 2012 let’s have them nominate a slobbering, drooling idiot from a funny farm and then the US can become known as the bankrupt Mental Hospital of the world! What a future to contemplate! Sadly for us, Osama is sitting in his cave and can’t believe his incredible luck that in 8 yrs he has achieved all his goals and more by getting the sole “superpower” to implode with 8+ Trillion $ more debt since Carter by his (OBL’s) expenditure of a mere $350K and a few robot “martyrs”. Way to go USA – this is far more entertaining than the decline and fall of the Roman empire would have been on TV. I’m sick at heart at what’s been done to our country by all these madmen.

  14. Finally! Someone out there articulated my thoughts in precise detail. I am often curious how people fall in love with a smile while jabbering about the paramount issues in a disrespectful, nonsensical method. McCain could have chosen Mickey Mouse, and he would have spoken with much more intelligence and logic than this hot air baboon.

Please, go back to Alaska and keep participating in the AIP club, and leave the remainder of Americans alone. We are tired of the country, folksy chatter that leaves me ill!

Helen, thank you for taking the courage and saying what the mass media could say, but will not say. Kudos to you!

  15. BRAVA!!!!!!! Exactly. God help us if McCain/Palin (or should I say Palin/McCain) get elected. palin is very very dangerous. She reminds me of Delores Umbridge in the harry Potter series. They are both power hungry (palin said it herself, both in the Couric interview and then in the debate), both are totally for the system, and both are ignorant and sadistic. The only difference is that Umbridge is truthful about where are her alliances.

  16. “knowing McCain that might have been his plan all along”

You know McCain? That’s so cool! Because you wouldn’t really say something about someone that you don’t really know, would you?

It doesn’t really matter what party you are affiliated with, everyone should agree that a presidential (or VP) candidate shouldn’t be required to have all the answers. Even Obama has said some pretty dumb things because he was pressed for answers. Why not allow these candidates an opportunity to gather up the great minds of this great nation to support a unified cause? Wouldn’t it be great to actually hear someone say that they will surround themselves with subject matter experts since nobody is an expert in every field of life?

  17. Your clarity and wisdom is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being a real American and spreading the message that my dad drilled into me my whole life “Use your head for more than a hat rack America”. Think about the effect having a bumbling idiot running the country could cause, and if you need an example just recall the last 8 years.

I wish some of my fellow 20 something middle America friends were as wise as you.

  18. Helen, liberal California thanks you! Wait…let me clarify, the intelligent, liberal Californians thank you!

  19. Helen for President!!!!!

  20. Kudos Helen, you go Girl
    Katie Couric should interview you

  21. You must be a senile old bitch, then….

  22. If Palin is indeed elected as the VP of USA, we will be the real joke around the world…!

IF they get elected will be leaving this country next day.

  23. Good Vanessa…..go because we sure don’t need TRUE Americans like you!

  24. i understand you are old … that can’t be helped. you are also a liberal democrat … yes, it shows.
and to use your own word … you are the bitch.

  25. Bravo! I’m horrifed to think that this woman could be the first woman to occupy the office of VP (or even President should the need arise). And I’m insulted to think that the Republican party thinks she is a model for American women. Are you kidding me? I don’t want a beauty queen who believes in creationism — I want a well educated, knowledgeable, articulate candidate! There are plenty of women out there who fit that description.

  26. As a young woman I am afraid for my rights and the rights of my future daughters if this woman were to be elected. Thank-you for saying what so many pundits are afraid to. Absolutely brilliant!!!!

  27. Fantastic post!

  28. Amazing, simply amazing!

When an 80+ y/o from Georgia is able to see bullshit and call it what it is, then America should listen! While it is true that not all elders show such dead on accuracy, Helen, my dear you hit the tree and the target. I can only say thank you.

Palin is scary as all of the great Alaskan outdoors. I shake my head when I see people saying how great she is. My neighbor was one such person, but then I asked her the following:

“If your daughter where to become pregnant via incest or rape, would you want her to carry the child to term?”

Needless, to say after she was able to get over the horror of my words she gave me an resounding “OH HELL NO!”. Well, when I looked at her and explained to her that Sarah Palin believes just that, she thought at first I was lying, but after finding out that is what Palin said. She purchased 2 Obama bumper stickers and yard signs!

America, WAKE UP!!!!! Now, is the time to fight for what we believe in and belive in what we fight for.

Yes, Obama is black, but Palin is an uneducated white woman. We all know that McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his class, what about Palin? Every time she opens her mouth, she shows exactly how much focus America needs to put on Education, because people she is a raving idiot!

I’m Jan Carter and I approve this message.

    Obama/Biden 08

  29. That was a great synopsis of this whole debacle. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  30. I really hope you are 82 years old because that means that my negative presumptions about seniors are not always true! I was worried that I was doomed to become a naive republican in 2054, (When I turn 70) but you have given me hope. Keep it up!

I think its safe to call her a bitch since she practically called herself one. Allow me to explain:

She said the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is “lipstick” right? Assuming she is reffering to a female pitbull, (I can’t imagine she is reffering to a male) then she is reffering to a bitch, a.k.a. a female dog. She essencially called herself a bitch with lipstick. It is quite possibly the most sexist and degrading comment I have ever heard on the political front. (Aside from McCain allegedly calling his wife a C*nt.) Maybe they’re perfect for eachother afterall. Now McCain has a Bitch to his left and a C*nt to his right!

  31. I just heard that McCain is dumping Palin so he can get Helen on his good side. McCain now realizes that Helen is his only chance of winning.

    He should be calling soon.

  32. McCain/Helen

  33. Wow, harsh but true – I’m an X-Marine Gulf War Veteran (1st war) – voted for Bush – Provided Jobs and have taken advantage of all the tax breaks for the companies I have owned – a Die Hard Republican – but this year – WOW….Can’t do it I Love my country to much much to vote the Palin/McCain Ticket – although it would benefit me on taxes, health care etc.,… I can’t do it – Joe Biden has my Vote therefore Obama has my vote – Palin oh my God what is going on with our country? People even on this post are protecting her, from the obvious, for what?? Wake up People, I don’t know if I would call Palin a Bitch but everything else you’ve posted is….well, BRAVO!

  34. Oh dear. Call me a bitch if you want to. I don’t mind. But I am not runhning for Vice President. I don’t understand how all this works but I had no idea this would get so much attention. Margaret just called me and she is wondering how everyone found our silly little blog. I can’t wait to ask my grandson.

  35. I would be proud to call you my relative. Thank you Helen for expressing your (and my) opinion on this unfortunate choice of running mate to represent our nation.

  36. I’ve posted this several times today, each time it is removed. To anyone reading this, see if this message is still here in the next couple of minutes or hours. The site is being censored.

I stumbled on the site through a link from a Saturday Night Live video comment.

It doesn’t take much intelligence to quickly realize this site was fabricated by someone younger with ill-intentions to mislead the public into believing an elderly woman would actually say these things. Real elderly women bring an element to dialogue that is sorely lacking in this one, wisdom.

  37. Helen is right on target.

I am 44 years old and have voted both R and D in my life, depending on the candidate and the issues. This election is critical. With so many significant global and domestic issues hanging in the balance, we need intelligent and thoughtful leadership.

McCain, with his choice of Palin, has demonstrated neither. I hesitate to even comment on my level of insult at the pandering for the female vote…as if we would be complimented by that choice!?

I was concerned about McCain prior to the VP choice, but I am truly terrified for our country’s future at the thought that an intellectual zero like Palin could be one of our leaders, especially with her view of the powers of the VP.

  38. Hope I’m as feisty as you when I’m 82!

    Tina Fey/Helen ‘08

  39. It was obvious from the minute she started her whole idiotic self-portrayal on the stage when Republicans “unveiled” her- testosterone levels shot up on the old guys and younger men lost their common sense also when there she tramped…” a woman of power instead of just a older male.Their cameras flashed as though for Pam Anderson. they wanted young they wanted female they wanted someone opposed to abortion.
Shit for brains!!! That is her and all who are taken by her “hick” ways. She totally offends and does set womens issues back so much. WHO gives a “rat’s ass” if she moose hunts, fishes or whatever in Alaska.
I think as George Bush has ruined the U.S. image all over the world, so has Gov. P. ruined the reputation of Alaska and all we thought of in the minds of Americans. What a floozy! Why!? didn’t the moderator insist she stay on course during debate? She chose to return to her lengthy note cards(in a panic) as though someone said to her- “If /when you get stumped, return to these cards-no matter what the topic is for the debate. You talk about these” …and she did and she got away with having her own little bratty agenda her own bratty way.I pray McCain loses and she goes back for Troopergate never to be seen or heard from again

  40. Call WOlf Blitzer on CNN!!!!
Helen needs to be added to the “best political analysis team on television!!”

  41. Hi John. Feel free to post whatever you want. I don’t mind. I would need my grandson to tell me how to remove any of it. He might be doing that and hasn’t let me know yet. He now lives in London so I will hear from him eventually I know. Thank you for stopping by and remember I am not the one running for Vice President and I don’t watch that show you are talking about but I hear it is very funny.

  42. I found your site while I was reading comments to the Saturday Night Live “comical” video of the Biden/Palin debate, the Saturday 10/4/08 episode, at http://www.nbc.com.

I hope you get on that show or at least somewhere where you can say what we have all been thinking…

    Pumpkin

  43. Helen thank you for saying it!

  44. Ma’am, you rock.

  45. You nailed it, Helen.

  46. Justin, you ignorant slut.

Can you not name a magazine when pressed? Or a single Supreme Court decision aside from Roe v. Wade? It’s okay to be just as dumb as Sarah, we’ll still love you and give you a gold star when you win your very own Olympics…

But you DON’T get to be president.

  47. Oh, and Helen… Brilliant. =)

  48. Alaska has nearly 700,000 people. Most live within an area that covers less than 1% of the land area of Alaska. 69.3% of Alaskans are white. That stands as the LOWEST percentage in the United States. Therefore, Alaska has a greater racial diversity than any other state! The Alaskan Permanent Fund gives a dividend to resisdents who maintain constant residency for more than 11 months. The highest dividend was $1,963.86 back in 2000. In spite of this, Alaska has one of the highest cost-of-living averages in the nation. In fact, federal employees are given a 25% cost-of-living allowance above their base pay because the cost of living is so high.

Because Alaska is in its own time zone, having a baby on national TV at 11pm means that, to the baby, it was only 7pm. I fail to see how that is bad mothering.

“God” is spelled with a capital “G”.

The national media was responsible for talking up Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy; a fact that Sarah Palin wanted to keep secret from the media.

The sentence, “Your insulting to a United States Senator who is so respected that his home state has re-elected him to office 6 times,” should read: “You’re insulting to a United States Senator who is so respected that the state of Delaware elected and re-elected him to office 6 times.” Joe Biden’s home state is Pennsylvania, not Delaware. It is impossible for anyone to be re-elected without first being elected, therefore Biden was re-elected 5 times and elected once.

  49. I knew it would be some dried up old skank like you that would be calling Governor Palin the B-word. Please. Doubtful you’re even going to be around in a few more years and that is fine by me…I get so sick of these SENIORS that just run their mouths because they feel so entitled and justified to do so because they have managed to outlive a majority of their peers. Go find a bridge game or something.

  50. For John who posted at 10:27 Oct 5:

I’m surprised that you think this is a fake blog.
I bet you were raised in a nuclear household, without daily exposure to the wisdom and wit of older people.

Older people are younger people with experience!
Only if an older person is mentally inactive, avoiding new challenges and experiences, will they become ossified in their thinking as they age.

    George Bernard Shaw, for example:
“In 1950, Shaw fell off a ladder while trimming a tree on his property at Ayot St. Lawrence in Hertfordshire, outside of London, and died a few days later of complications from the injury, at age 94. He had been at work on yet another play.”

I hope I’m like Helen when I grow up. (Heck, I’m only 70…)

  51. I got here from SNL comments too, that was a great clip, the only thing i wish they’d done was something on the ‘achilles heel’ question because i’m pretty sure miss sarah had no idea what that meant. . .

I am from alaska and lots of us up here are horrified at what our governor has turned out to be and what kind of (drill baby drill) mindset the rest of the country must think we have up here . . . much of it is simply NOT TRUE for your average alaskan, for example we are small-time farmers.
Among other things. This woman IS dangerous, not least because she and many of her supporters do believe that she has been ‘lifted up of God’ to lead this country . . . yikes. They are very serious about this belief, no humor in it.

Don’t have link, but try googling ’sarah palin debate flowchart’ for a good laugh. BTW, ‘palin’ is from the Greek and means ‘back’. (As in ‘palindrome’ which means ‘back way’, this term is so scarily synchronous to what we are seeing).

  52. When I grow up I want to be just like Helen! Tell it like it is honey! YOU ROCK!

  53. “It doesn’t take much intelligence to quickly realize this site was fabricated by someone younger with ill-intentions to mislead the public into believing an elderly woman would actually say these things. Real elderly women bring an element to dialogue that is sorely lacking in this one, wisdom.” Hey Dude, I’m 62 years old, and Helen could not have better expressed my own beliefs about the high school bantering, folksy talking, trailer trash from Alaska… She’s so bright that it took her 6 years and 5 colleges to get an ordinary journalism degree? For God’s sake, we need, now more than ever since Bush drove this country off the rails, intelligent, EDUCATED, well-read, accomplished, respected and respectful leadership to try to get us back on a sane track towards prosperity, strength, and some kind of productive future. Obama may not be everything we need, but he’s damn sure better than what we’ve got, which is McCain’s dear buddy Dubya. Palin is just another horrifying right-wing ideologue like Karl Rove and Cheney, etc., EXCEPT SHE has to have cue cards in order to string together two sentences. Oh, and she can field-dress a moose. [Gosh darnit, I guess ya jus' gotta go with your strengths? Ya betcha!] Thanks, Helen…You keep going, and let your words be read by anyone who realizes that our country is toast if we get 4 more years of Republican “leadership”. Old uppity women–Unite!

  54. Oh Helen…you simply HAVE to go to the website and see the parody Tina Fey is doing of this woman. It’s sad but it’s HILLARIOUS!! For the most part they only use her own words in the skits. I’ll include the link so you can have a peek…I swear my sides still hurt from watching the debate skit.
    http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/vp-debate-open-palin-biden/727421/

  55. The second Elsie here, who is 62 years old, lives in Texas, one of those old Republican states. Let’s see what happens comes November 4 this year….

  56. Texas=The Late Ann Richards…uh, GOP, no, but TX according to you is one of those “old” Republican states?

  57. Thank you so much for sharing your views with us. I just moved from Texas. If I had known women of you caliber were there, I might have considered staying. Please forgive the comments of the young and ignorant that have posted ugly remarks to you. You have stated what is in the hearts of any woman with a sense of pride and an IQ over 100. I appreciate your willingness to put yourself out there in this manner. May God bless and keep you.

  58. W made every man thinks he could be president.
Palin makes every woman thinks she could be the vice president.
Where are the Lincolns and the Washingtons in this great nation? We don’t want Joe Six-Pack or Hockey Mom to lead our country. We want great men and women to lead our country!

  59. I enjoyed reading the blog and the comments. Thank you for speaking your mind! Here I found the “Sarah Palin Debate Flow Chart” :
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/03/sarah-palin-debate-flowch_n_131607.html

  60. Love it. Have been trying unsuccessfully to frame my feelings about Palin in more sophisticated ways. Problem is my feelings about her aren’t sophisticated, I am insulted. Thanks for clearing away the confusion. You nailed it.

  61. Bravo, Helen, well said. I couldn’t agree more.

John, who care if the site is being moderated for comments? Last I checked, this was a personal blog where the person who runs it is in charge. She can say or do whatever she wants here. I’d say the same if I made a liberal comment on a conservative site and it was removed – they have every right to do so.

Jeff, thank you for nitpicking her post and correcting minute details. Now can you make a post of reasons that Palin would make a great president should it come to that?

  62. Most excellent! Well said and right to the point. What I can’t believe is that with all the truly intelligent Republican women out there McCain hoists Palin on us!

If he wins as a nation will we desreve everything that comes our way!

  63. Well said!
When I watched the “debate”, I recognized the technique. I attended a session presented by a group of media coaches at Book Expo America a few years ago. They advised authors on book tours to ignore the questions asked by interviewers. Instead, they told us to have 5 to 7 talking points. We were to say, “I’m so glad you asked that. It is an imporant question, now here’s what I want to say” and then proceed toany one of the prepared (memorized and rehearsed)talking points.
Now, I can see doing that with a book reviewer or morning talk jock. They just want content and they don’t really care what you say. Most haven’t had time to read the book anyway. A debate is different.
I can’t believe she got away with it! Good for you, and for Tina Fay, for calling her on it.
You can’t blame McCain for looking for an excuse, any excuse, to call off the debates. She’s scary and he doesn’t want people to see it.

  64. Just go watch the HBO special “Hacking Democracy” – November 4th – votes…ha!

  65. THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU….for articulating my thoughts excatly. Its good to know there are still Americans who can see throught this B.S and aren’t to p.c to say it like it is.

She is dangerous, and will set American back in time. She is merely a campaign guinea pig.

John McCain chose a VP that would energize his campaign, and not someone who is fit to be president.

SAD that this is what we’ve come to today….

  66. Helen Rocks! You took the words right out of my 57 y/o-conservative-Republican-mother’s mouth.

  67. how is it that most of the responses that are critical seem to be based on name calling or other mean spirited, delusional, ignorant, base aspects of human nature? could it be true that not all conservatives are stupid but all stupid people are conservative?(note to the stupid person about to point out my hypocrisy…change stupid to less intelligent.) Helen i hope i’m as sharp and honest as you when i’m your age!!!!!!

  68. Helen Thank you, harsh but true…did anyone remember the Brady Bunch episode where Cindy was on tv and when the red I came on she looked at the screen like an idiot and didn’t said anything that what the Palin reminded me of at the VP debate.

  69. Dear Helen, Thank you for your words of wisdom. My Mother dislikes her too, but can’t bring herself to say the B-word.
Since Molly Ivins and Ann Richards died I have felt a void. Darlin’ you have filled it.
I love you. Keep up the good work, smart words, and good wishes for a brighter future for America.
    Keep ON ROLLING!
    your Friend, texrednface

  70. If you look up BIMBO in the dictionary you will see a picture of Sarah Palin…..she make me sick.

  71. I am a registered Republican. I have never been more unnerved by the selection that is on this ticket. Look, along the way we all make bad choices and be-friend the wrong people. But why can’t we all as a NATION see that McCain and Palin are TOTAL Unbalanced individual’s that together as “MAVERICKS” will not only crash and burn but potentially take us with them!!!! Vote OBAMA!!!!
Palin is out of touch and clueless!!! McCain is such a Maverick…..where and how??McCain is McCaught in a McWeb of McLies!
They are so desperate! Palin has be stating that Obama is being “friendly with terrorist”….Come on!!! If memory serves me correctly,I believe USA was friendly with OSAMA. Enough with the low blows!! I wish Obama would sue her Moose-killin ass! for defamation of character.
Wake up America! Take a Stand and Vote!!
    Hopefully, nothing will be manipulated!!!
    Vote Obama!!!

  72. Anyone else notice that Palin is like a female version of Dubya? Watch the speech excerpts on the Letterman show and compare his “eloquence” without cue cards to Palin’s communicative abilities when deprived of her own cue cars….She just does the folksy Alaskan twang, instead of the folksy Texas twang. “If’n ya liked 8 years of Dubya, I betcha gonna love 4 years of McCain and Palin, don’tcha know…Here’s a shout out to all you sacker moms out there.” [Obviously, the ex-beauty queen thought she was back in high school running for hall monitor...]

  73. Dear Helen,

I loved your review of Palin! I think you have the woman nailed!

Did you know that someone posted your blog address on SNL comments for the video of their spoof of the Biden/Palin debate – that’s how I found you. My guess is that by this time tomorrow your comments will have tripled. I sent your link out to several friends that I know will love your blog.

    Sheryl

  74. Helen…very well written opinion! You sound like one smart cookie, and very spunky, too! Thanks for putting to print what many of us are thinking!

  75. McCain is not so much of a maverick as he is a loner. And, if you look at how the Republicans are staying as far away from Bush right now as they can, you can picture a McCain presidency. The Loner will not bring together his party and the nation to rebuild what the Bush administration has torn up, dismantled (like civil rights), and spit out.

  76. Aw Helen, you had me at hello.

Fellow Texan here that agrees with you 100%. Palin simply offends the senses, and you summed her up quite well.

It is nice to know that there are other Texans out there who feel as strongly about her as I do and aren’t afraid to say it. She’s horrible!

Shame on McCain. Country first, my ass!

  77. Sarah Palin is a joke for one reason only — No self-respecting Mother would even seek the VP office when she has a child that’s still a newborn. How can you even justify being a commited VP candidate when you’re sacrficing valuable time bonding with your child. And she’s a weak opposer of women’s rights too. She’s a joke and she makes a mockery of strong women everywhere.

  78. Although I agree with your attacks Helen, quite whole-heartedly, I think it comes down to one ideal for me.

I believe leaders should be admired, respected, even revered for their public service, their dedication, hard work and above all, their intelligence. I desire leaders that intimidate me with their wisdom, strategic skills and knowledge. I crave a DC where it would be dream to have dinner with those in office. One night, where I could marvel at their minds.

Helen’s eloquent rant resonates with my same frustration. It really wouldn’t matter if this site was manufactured, or if a few of her numbers are off, because the fact remains: Sarah Palin may be a decent mother (although that is questionable, considering circumstances), but she is a completely unimpressive politician, could not be referred to as a scholar and is in need of some speech therapy. She reminds me of the neighborhood church moms when I was growing up, the head of the PTA, hell give her a role on Desparate Housewives. People, this is not a game.

This is the future of my children, my country. While I would surely allow Palin to read them a storybook at the library, I do not want her teaching policy, economics or science, which she does not even “believe” in. Palin is vying for an office in the government of the country we all love. An office which requires capabilities to SOLVE the enormous issues with our economy, continue our struggle for democracy throughout the world, battle terrorism, communicate with world leaders . . .all these things require much more than small-town charm and the naive belief that God=Government. My dear Sarah, God gave you a world, so you might get a passport and check it out. God gave us the spectacular art of science so that we might learn from our mistakes, develop, grow and flourish, using its principals. God gave you a brain, so that you might use it.

Thank you for expressing yourself Helen. It’s so refreshing to hear truth, even if it makes us cringe a little bit. :)

  79. palin is a moron. how can anyone even consider her being part of a team that runs the most powerful country in the world?

  80. Here’s one thing: Voting R isn’t a shame. Voting D isn’t a shame. Voting STUPID and INCONSIDERATE however IS! Now voting for someone, who shortly before chosen to be Mccains running mate, confessed that she HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE DUTIES OF A VP ARE, is mere idiocy. The US deserve better. I say this as a German.

  81. You go girl. You are my inspiration. My husband and I thought we were the only ones upset about the baby being with her — I don’t care what time it is, that baby should not have been there. Period.
The Republicans would never tolerate any of the Palin antics from a Democrat. If Hillary were the VP candidate and Chelsea were pregnant, can you imagine the things they’d be saying! Thanks for saying what needed to be said.

  82. You Betcha! There’s a place for you in heaven Helen. Wink, wink.

  83. Agreed!

You two are too cute. You both should have a sitcom.

  84. Excellent…simply excellent but you know what so this NIGHTMARE doesn’t come true we need to get the word out there to vote come Nov 4th. We need to.
This campaign as you have heard is going to get ugly on behalf of this dimwit incompetent and his cancer survivor lunatic. They have admitted they will change the theme of the economic and healthcare woes this country faces to political crap. That’s were we come in. To support, campaign and vote for CHANGE.
Thank you for this blog. I’ll go ahead and spread the word around. God Bless!

  85. Great post Helen! You should be on Jon Stewart’s writing team or may be SNL’s!!

Palin does not understand the fundamentals of a woman’s right to choose. Pro choice does not mean NOT being pro-life. Being pro-choice is about having an option to choose but Palin is not open minded nor does she has enough understanding of era we live in.

If we are stupid enough to elect her than we have just pushed women’s right movement back to 60’s. AND if we are stupid enough to elect her than we will be getting a government we deserve……

  86. Sarah Palin:
    - Looks Great!!
    - Sounds Good!
    - Where’s the beef????

The ‘Redneck in Lipstick’ cannot disappear from the national scene soon enough. She is soooo out of her league.

  87. I would like to know why it is bad for a mother of a baby to run for vice president? Would that be such an issue if it was a father running for VP? How many families do you know that are or have had to deal with an unplanned teenage pregnancy? Get off your soap boxes and look at how she is more like you and me than you want to say. I look forward to having someone more like myself in the White House.

  88. Also…if she did not have the baby with her, you all would have been complaining that she should have been home with her baby. There is not a way that she could handle the baby that you would be pleased with…wait a minute, maybe there was. When she was pregnant and found out the baby had Down’s Syndrome, she could have had an abortion, and her 17 year old could have had an abortion…would that have made you happy?

  89. It is amazing that the people of America, who believe in bringing freedom to others and ensuring that Women get fair treatment in other countries pick and support a “woman” who stands for all that the Feminists of the world have been fighting against.

When replying to the question – if a child gets raped by her own father and ends up getting pregnant, would she still be against abortion- her response, “I will counsel them to keep the child.” was probably the lowest any woman can get. She does not think it necessary to counsel about the psychological effects of rape, instead wants to “counsel” about the physiological after effect.

The only word for such a woman is degenerate.

Kudos to you ma’am for posting the truth as it is.

I come from a developing nation, which has had a woman prime minister two decades ago, and while I am all for a woman to lead the US, I think she is the wrong choice.

  90. Thank you! I love it!
I’m so fed up with all these people excusing her ignorance by saying they are sure she is a “nice” person.
Horsesh&$ – nice people do not spout lies in order to win political office. SHE is a conniving, backstabbing politician -. One of us? Gimme a break. Also the “b” word for me mostly describes someone who attempts to use her position as a woman to gain power via either conforming to male stereotypes of what a woman should be (cutesy, airhead, obedient) or backstabbing other females. Palin is all of the above.

  91. Hi Helen,

I think you are getting so many responses because someone posted a link to your blog on nbc.com from the Tina Fey parodies. (http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/vp-debate-open-palin-biden/727421/)

By the way, you rock! It is so refreshing to hear an older person tell it like it is. Please ignore the rude comments people are leaving. When people have no real counter argument, they fall back on petty attacks.

    You have this girl’s respect!

    Jen

  92. Hello Helen and Margaret. I came to this site at my wife’s urging, apparently she like many found this personal blog via a link on the SNL video skit of the Veep debate. I must say I was initially skeptical that the posting (Sarah Palin is a Bitch…) was fabricated by someone – this blog hasn’t had a new post in over a year and the premise of the blog seems to be a means for two friends to stay in touch with each other. I’m also suprised (pleasantly) that two elderly women are cognizant enough of technology to know how to create such a blog format, though I suppose you had help from your son? Regardless, after reading through the comments here and finding your specific replies Helen I must say I’m believing that an elderly woman such as you truly does express this opinion of the Republican choice for VP.

Quickly to those naysayers here – your opinion is as valid as any others, so long as you (unlike the Republican National Convention) do not try to distort the facts. Also, treat the poster with the respect a woman of her advanced years is due. I do not personally know her but I have to say based on her post she is articulate, intelligent, and possessing a sharp wit – unlike Sarah Palin.

My view (and a slightly tempered version of my wife’s :D ) – the Republican Party has lost the faith of the majority of America these last eight years and they’re not going to do any better with whom they’ve selected as the President and VP candidates. Its too late to bemoan missing out on better candidates (oh Huckabee!) but rather better to look toward 2012. I personally am a Democrat but I will vote for someone I feel is qualified to lead this great nation. That’s not John McCain and Sarah Palin…by any stretch of the imagination. Merely stating you’re a maverick is not the best qualification for being a candidate…

Oh, and I concur – Helen needs to hit the national circuit. :D

  93. Thank you for not being afraid to say what so many people are thinking!

  94. I’ve been calling bullshit on this CUNT (which i think is much more accurate than “bitch” and have been using -no pun intended- liberally) from the first moment I heard her name. Thank you for this great piece. sry for the crudeness, but it makes me feel so insulted when someone tries to sell me on sex alone. She is absolutely the opposite of a feminist.

  95. I wish you were my grandmother. :-) Or, my best friend. :-)

Best of luck and keep it coming.

  96. Helen,
Thanks for your blog. I agree of with your assessment of Palin. One thing concerns me though is that eventhough Palin is getting negative publicity she is getting publicity. She is accomplishing want the politician McCain wanted to happen… get people polarized so that his base will get out and vote.
And the media is ignoring how the people are feeling about anyone but Palin.
I wrote the following after attending an Obama rally on Saturday Sept 25th. There was virtually no coverage of the rally in the print or TV media.

The national news media has missed the story on the Obama’s visit to Fredericksburg, VA. It is not the excerpts from the tried and true stump speech that were news worthy. It is the people that attended. It is the way that Obama looked out over the crowd taking in the meaning of what he saw – 26,000 people that had STOOD IN PLACE for 5 or more hours, through mealtime… a** to elbow soaked for hours in the rain. They stayed without umbrellas, without food or water because nothing could be brought into the rally area for security reasons. Most of these people probably had not stood in one place for more than 15 minutes in their life or rarely missed a meal. These people wanted to be there to hear Obama and Biden. (By the way media – it was raining and thundering at 5:00pm and kept raining off and on for the next 3 hours and people STOOD in place in the mud. It didn’t just rain when Obama started to speak) There are a lot of sore backs in the area Sunday.

And this rally of 26,000 occurred with only two days notice… on soccer/football/field hockey/lacrosse Saturday; in red country VA where Ollie North had run for office a few years ago; a ½ mile from where Secessionist voted resolutions of secession in March 1861; within a ½ mile of where the “slave sale” stump still stands in memorial on a downtown street corner; and where confederate flags still fly on trucks, cars and homes.

There were not any banners, TV ads, or roadside signs announcing the rally. A couple of newspaper articles, emails from the campaign to some people and word of mouth got the 26,000 people out to the rally.

The crowd was a good mix of the Fredericksburg area but mainly white middle class. Not all the people were party faithful either. In listening to the conversations around me (a 50+ Midwestern born and raised Republican) I heard, like me, most people had never been to a political rally before. The draw that the Obama candidacy has is to fulfill the yearning for a leader that people can respect. The yearning for a change, that is what drew the people to the Obama rally. The news is not the talking points which we have heard before – the news is that people were there, the people stayed and the people were enthusiastic all the way during the soaking rain and into the darkness when the rally finally took place 2 hours behind schedule. How could Obama not be moved by what he saw and the enthusiasm he heard. He carried on soaked like the rest of us probably much to his aides chagrin for his health.

The saying goes, build it and they will come. I say; given a leader, the American people will follow. And America needs a leader now more than ever.

PS – to rally organizers. Hint, get more than one CD or invest in an IPOD. After hearing the same set of songs on the PA for the 6th or 7th time it gets really, really old.

  97. From City Council, to small town Mayor, to Govenor, to Vice President, and just a hearbeat from President. GO PALIN!!!!!

  98. Beautiful, Helen! Thanks for this perfect blog! PS: I have a tough time getting family to come to College Station for Thanksgiving myself, even when the game is in town. Texas in November is perfect, and at least the two of us know it.

  99. Amen sister.

  100. Queen B – I’m young, college educated, pretty well off… and i say Palin is a bitch. There I said it too.

Helen, you are awesome, speaking your mind, speaking the truth. My mother called recently to share her views on this VP candidate as well, and sounded MUCH like what you wrote above. Bravo! You’re very inspiring. And thank your grandson for us for setting up your account.

Oh yeah, and ignore folks who are on here angry with you, the truth can really hurt people and they’re just not ready for it. In the meantime, stay sharp!

  101. To all the conservative idiots:

If you want to call Helen a senile old bitch because she decided to call Palin a weak, pathetic, power-hungry bitch, fine. You are entitled to your own opinion. But reality check?? If you guys let McCain win – not only will U.S. be a laughingstock, your country will be doomed in the matter of days. Can you really see McCain surviving another 4 years? Do you really want to have this idiot of a woman to run your country? Someone who pronounces the word “nuclear” as “nucular”?? If that’s your choice, then don’t complain when you face difficulties in the future.

As for Helen, props to you for not being afraid to say what so many people from different countries are saying.

  102. Hello everyone,
I’d like to congratulate Helen for this entry, a bit harsh, but a lot accurate. As my nick indicates, I’m not an US citizen, but I, like lots of people around the world, am really worried about the possibility of a person like Sarah Palin to get to the US vicepresidency, and eventually, to the presidency. I’d like to say to all of you, in the United States, that knowing the importance of your country in our planet, you must leave behind the political sectarism and vote for the person that is most qualified for such an important job. Your great nation and our whole world deserves it.

    A friend from Colombia.

  103. EXCELLENT POST!!! I’m passing it along to everyone I know! It takes someone from the greatest generation to say it like it is…now if the masses will just listen to it. THANK YOU!!!

  104. There’s one thing you definitely convinced me of, you are certainly no lady. You talk like trailor trash. If you don’t like Palin, that’s your business but she seems to be much more successful than you. At least she doesn’t have to use the b word and talk like an ignorant hick. If you are from the South, what an embarassment you are. If not, you should come down and learn a few manners!

  105. Helen,
God bless ya! I love this blog!

One of the things I agree with the most – I miss Tim Russert too! I would love to hear his opinions on the Democratic and Republican tickets, especially the candidates for VP; on the history of this election; on the financial bail out…

    I’ve bookmarked this site!

  106. You’re the bomb! Thanks for saying what needed to be said. I’m north of you in Denton, can I come for Thanksgiving this year? I’ll bring $20!

  107. Thank you, Helen, for saying what many of us are thinking. Hopefully, what most of us are thinking!

  108. “doesn’t talk like an ignorant hick”? Gigi, does your television not have audio?

  109. Helen and Margaret — will you adopt me??
You have hit the nail on the head! I couldn’t agree more with your assessment.

This is for “Just Me” — I’m am so sorry you feel that Sarah Palin is just like you.

I on the other hand am proud to be nothing like her. wink wink.

  110. Where do I start?
I can’t thank you enough for your honesty. You really have brought a smile to myself and many others. I do not wish you the burden of publicity but I would be a huge fan if you where to receive more mainstream attention.
    Thank you.

  111. Too bad for you Violet….I stand firm in my beliefs. My daddy taught me…’you have to stand for something or you will fall for anything’…glad I have listened to his wise advise.

  112. What an inspiration you are Helen. May you live forever. I am spreading the word about your blog.
    Keep up the good work.

  113. P.S. Please run for office
    next time around.

    Best,
    Jane

  114. Great ranting post! I feel better after reading as you have articulated many of my thoughts and observations as I suffer through election time!

Real women bitch! And are not afraid to use the word!

  115. God bless you, Helen, for telling it like it is. Especially loved the part about the pipeline up her considerable ass…priceless! Keep up the excellent work honey!

  116. Helen, YOU NAILED IT!

I’m posting your link all over, including the comedy site: foxnews.com

Let’s all spred the word and send Helen’s blog Viral!!

    You Betcha…

  117. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a Great and true blog by Helen. I am 25 years old and pray I live to see 82, and I have seen a lot in my 25 years to know that Mc Cain/Palin is not the right choice for America. I have served in the military with tours in Afghan, and Iraq. I know every soldier in those combat areas agree with Obama/Biden. It is Time For A Change!! Bravo Helen for saying what the mainstream media is scared to really say.

  118. Brilliant! Hats off to you wonderful women from a younger Texas Democrat. Keep your wisdom coming, please. We all need it!

  119. Well goshdarnnit Virginia Voter, why didn’t I think of that! wink wink

  120. After the conservatives lose in November they too will be able to admit how embarrassing Palin is! Thank you Helen for this hilarious catharsis.

  121. Helen and Margaret, YOU ROCK.
Perhaps all thinking women should start wearing t-shirts that say:

    SARAH PALIN IS A BITCH!

    Oh yes we can.

  122. Thanks for the truth!! The republican party is counting on the American people to be as stupid and racist as they have been in the past!! Wake up America….Your future is at stake…November 4th will show how much you’ve grown.

  123. Very articulate. Thanks for sharing. I agree wholeheartedly. I can’t imagine that she would seriously be thought of as potentially able to lead the country. May our deity of choice help us all should they win and something happen to McCain. I can’t imagine where we would be then.

Some interesting things to note re: the reactions you’ve received- most (?) are men, and the persons who have been to war (even if they were previously R) are voting for Obama.

  124. Seriously,
I am a republican who has followed John
    McCain`s effort to become president
since 2000 against Bush. When he won the nomination, there was no doubt in my mind, I would be voting for
him. McCain is not the same person I admired so much 8yrs ago. I was starting to see the change before he picked Palin. There is no way I would vote for him now. when he says he puts
country first then selects someone like
her to be VP & to think there would be
any chance for her to become president
makes me want to cry. I have a neighbor that goes on & on about how
cute she is & how she will clean up washington!!! All of the problems going
on in the US & there are people like her
that will be stupid enough to vote for her. Thats why I will not be voting for
McCain. I feel that is why he picked her.
He realizes a dumb good ole boy beat him in 2000 & he has a dumb good ole
girl on his ticket for those people to vote for. God help us!!

  125. Thank you for your boldness, Helen. I hope for the sake of our country that your voice reflects the majority and not the minority, and I hope that majority speaks up on election day.

Jeff – you are an idiot with far too much time on your hands. Grammar and capitalization lessons? Really?! That’s all you’ve got. I’m a teacher and I’m disgusted with your mundane and pointless post. Get a f***ing life!

  126. “Your insulting to a United States Senator who is so respected that his home state has elected him to office 6 times.”

It’s actually “You are, not your.”

I’m insulted by your profanity – it definately sounds like something from the mouth of a teenager with nothing better to say than from an 82 year old. I though people in your generation grew up with morals and knew how to act with dignity and grace. I certainley can’t imagine Jackie O talking like that even though I suspect she wouldn’t be a fan of Sarah Palin.

Whatever side you’re on, debate your points with class. Maybe you can take a hint from Palin or Biden (both of whom debated without calling each other “whining bitches”).

Sarah Palin is someone that we are definately not used to in the Political arena, but she does have supporters. Her views on “womens rights” for instance are held by a huge population of the US. You can’t immediately discount them. Just because some women don’t support murdering their own children doesn’t mean that they hate women…it means they hate murder. If you aren’t ready for children, keep your legs closed. That’s how you CHOOSE. Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy shouldn’t disqualify her either. I’m sure that we can all agree that no family is perfect – not even your own.

Have your opinions, argue them, but do it respectfully. Maybe then America can be respected.

  127. Wow…you are a teacher Jennifer? I hope that you are not in my children’s classroom. Regardless of the rest of your post, I do not remember any of it other than the nasty language…shame on you!

  128. Loved your post, saw a link in a comment off HuffPost regarding Sarah’s misquote today, implying we will go to hell if we don’t support her.

Thank you for telling it like it is and what the MSM is afraid to say. For those nasty posts you are getting here they are just trolls who are getting McCain points for posting pissy comments. To really think that they could look you in the eye and say Sarah is qualified is an amazement, hard to imagine being that sheep like with no desire to actually find out who Sarah Palin really is
    http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=8c130fe3-adab-4cb3-8443-c363f085cf13

My 80 year old mother is TOTALLY with you on this on too Helen. You Rock!!!

  129. Helen,

Your comments are right on. I notice more people are on your side than not. That is great. As a black woman I am proud of our country for mostly wanting a change without prejudice.
    I love America!!!
I also appreciate the intelligent Republicans that know that we need a change.

  130. I am talking about Republicans that will not vote for McCain/Palin.

  131. I can see from the responses that you don’t need any more affirmation of how great this post is, but, nevertheless, this post is great! Palin’s pride in her own ignorance is bordering on sociopathic. And now the horrible woman is trying to play on the ignorant and racially-motivated slurs being whispered about Obama by saying he palled around with domestic “terrorists.”

Oh, and I think the answer to someone’s question above (as to why all the critical comments thus far have been mean-spirited or worse) is that it’s a defense mechanism. When stupid people are confronted with information that doesn’t vibe with their blindly-held beliefs, it causes a visceral reaction. Hence, resorting to telling Helen she won’t be around in a few years. Just as disgusting as Sarah Palin, really.

  132. Thanks for the photo accompanying the post. As a navy vet, I especially love the Battle E in the upper lefthand corner and you all “make” the photo.

  133. Wow, I really got a kick out of your post as well as the many comments. Thanks.

  134. This was absolutely brilliant!!!!! I am so sick and tired of hearing how she “connects” with real Americans. I am a real American and I certainly do not want so fundamentalist, moose killing, yapping, Walmart-hockey mom BITCH a heart beat away from the presidency. She is an insult to hard working, ambitious and intelligent women everywhere!
    THANK YOU HELEN!

  135. Amen, sister!!

  136. Thank you. Thank you for saying so well what I’ve been thinking. Since so many Americans voted W in for a second term I’ve been real worried about our intelligence. I’m afraid the same group loves this woman without regard to the fact that she’s a soccer Mom with no qualifications to be the leader of the free world.

  137. Helen,

You are right on and I loved everything you had to say.

I cannot stand those fakes McCain/Palin.

I’ve been voting against McCain for years. He’s a do nothing Senator of my state.

  138. So many have already said it, but let me add my own thank you to a straight forward and no nonsense post. However, doesn’t calling her a bitch make real bitches look bad?

  139. Anyone else having a hard time getting anything else done besides following this phenomenal blog???

  140. Just me,
I am a teacher and I am damn good one too. If your children were fortunate enough to be in my classroom they would encounter a challenging environment in which they were encouraged to think critically about their world and its future.

  141. [...] old Helen, over at Margaret and Helen blog has a few observations about Sarah [...]

  142. I just want to stand up and applaud you for this post. It is so perfect, so….true.

Thank you for speaking the truth and not tiptoeing around it like so many others have. It still pisses me off that she trotted that baby out on stage at the debate like some kind of badge of honor.

She is no credit to the smart women out there. Like you.

  143. Helen, you are my hero!

You made me laugh out loud with your scathing critique. You are spot-on.

    Best wishes to you!

  144. Just Me, “Get off your soap boxes and look at how she is more like you and me than you want to say. I look forward to having someone more like myself in the White House.” That’s the scary part! I don’t want someone like me in the White House. I want someone much smarter than me. Sarah Palin is not running for VP of the student government. She is running for VP of the United States. I am a successful business leader in my company, but I know I am not ready to be the CEO. Likewise, Sarah needs to recogonize her limitations. Governor of Alaska – yes….VP of the USA – no way!

    BTW, great post Helen!

  145. Thank you for this, Helen!
    It’s great… please post more.
I also found this from someone posting your address on the Saturday Night Live website.

  146. Wow, I was really enjoying reading your comments until you said “maybe not stupid by Alabama standards” what a disappointment to read when someone is voicing an opinion you may agree with to find that your location includes you in an area that is considered “stupid”

  147. Fran:
    [[[
    Call WOlf Blitzer on CNN!!!!
Helen needs to be added to the “best political analysis team on television!!”]]]

No, call MSNBC! Let’s put her smack-dab next to that asshat, Pat Buchanan. She’ll tell him a thing or two, and, in no time at all, she’ll have his head twirling around like Linda Blair on steroids.

  148. You hit it on the head. I couldn’t have put it better. For the life of me, I can’t understand how or why people are blindly buying into this “Palin” hype. I may have to link to this post.

  149. I must say this was great. You just wrote exactly what I was thinking about.
You have given me hope that one day I can be older while still being a liberal democrat. :) .

  150. [[[Wow, I was really enjoying reading your comments until you said “maybe not stupid by Alabama standards” what a disappointment to read when someone is voicing an opinion you may agree with to find that your location includes you in an area that is considered “stupid”

Jeanette, perhaps Ms. Philpot was referencing the fact that in the 2006-2007 Smart State Rankings, Alabama is #45.

Of course, California (my state) is #47. Arkansas is #32, Texas is #25, and they both beat the snot of both of our states.

If I got upset every time someone made a crack about my state, I’d be even more cranky than I am now.

Let’s face it: both of our states are stupid. But, as my Arkansas mother said, “Life is too short and the grave is too deep” to be upset when someone reminds us of it.

  151. Oh, Helen, thank you so much for that direct and honest articulation of your feelings about Ms. Palin. Like so many other Americans, I have been losing sleep at the thought that this woman might get anywhere near the White House. But every time I hear or read a new voice calling her out as the fraudulent “change agent” that she is, I am heartened.

You know, I have my own 5-year-old Helen here at home. I certainly hope that she grows up to possess the kind of honesty and clarity of thought that you have!

  152. Helen you are my new hero…We women are smart enough to know an ignorant bitch when we see one. Sarah Palin is pathetic….

  153. You Are AWESOME! :)

Man, I sincerely and desperately hope people see thru Sarah Palin like you do.

  154. Helen,Thanks so much for being so honest. I have been telling my family she is just eye candy and has no substance. McCain could have chosen a women who was actually qualified, it is a disgrace to all of us.

  155. My daughter was one of the 26,000 that attended the rally in Fredericksburg, Va in the pouring rain. The opportunity to be apart of such a historical moment in such a historical part of our country was one that none will soon forget!!! Virginia has come such a long way!!! Go Obama and Biden!!!

  156. Aw, Jeanette–don’t get ticked off about the Alabama thing….I’m sure that Helen meant no harm…

I’m from Texas, and it’s not at all unusual for us Texans to be insulted for one reason or another. But, then, of course, Dubya, Dick Cheney, Tom DeLay (former pompous, arrogant Republican whip), Alberto Gonzales (former U.S. attorney general) and plenty of others like them came from this state….

  157. I agree with everything you said. I would not want my daughter looking up to Sarah Palin. I taught my daughter to be a strong, honest, hard working woman. And never to stand up for herself. She’s twenty years old and I am very proud of her.

  158. Hi, Helen! SNL let me to you. You are great! Keep it up!

  159. I agree with everything you said. I would not want my daughter looking up to Sarah Palin. I taught my daughter to be a strong, honest, hard working woman. And to stand up for herself. She’s twenty years old and I am very proud of her.

  160. Thank you, Helen! It is soo good to know there are many of us who feel the same way about Sarah Palin! I found a very interesting web site more of you may also find interesting – http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter, on the right-hand side of the page is a “browse” section, click on each candidate’s name to check the truthfulness of statements made by each. Very enlightening.
To John – being elderly does not make you a prude or a “goody-two-shoes”. I am 62 and as I have gotten older, I have gotten much better at speaking my mind and using whatever words I need to get my point across.
To Just Me – I can’t imagine any intelligent, articulate, self-confident woman who would consider that Sarah Palin is “just like” them.
To Gigi – Have you not been really listening to what Palin is saying and how she is saying it?!
    Again, Helen, great post!

  161. Compare this to Gov. Palin:

~Before getting to the US Senate Obama served 11 years in the Illinois State Senate.

~Barack Obama is a graduate TOP of his class at Harvard Law School. Barack Obama also has a degree in Political science specializing in International Relations.

~Barack Obama worked in Chicago, Illinois as a community organizer, Obama, as the director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago, helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants’ rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.

~When he joined the Developing Communities Project, it had a staff membership of one person and an anual budget of $70,000, but when he left it three years later, it had 13 staff members and an anual budget of $400,000. Barack turned a public service organization that prepared people for education, jobs and serviced their struggling neighborhoods into a solid success.(EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE)

~Barack Obama worked as a Civil Rights lawyer for 9 years.

~Barack Obama was also a University of Chicago Constutitional Law Professor for 12 years.

~In the U.S Senate Obama has served on the FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE, HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE, VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, HEALTH, EDUCATION, LABOUR & PENSION COMMITTEE.

~In the US Senate Obama has written 890 pieces of legislation, and co-sponsored 1096 pieces of legislation.

  162. This is the biggest list of morons I think I’ve ever found in one place. Yall all need some learnin (except Larry you hit the nail on the head)

  163. Simply brilliant post, Helen! Very succinct. Thanks for telling it like it is.

  164. I’m so glad you brought up the fact that Palin is using her newborn as a prop. It enfuriates me!! What is wrong with that woman? She should absolutely not be flying all over the country with a newborn and dragging that poor child out amongst thousands of people, at 11 o’clock in the night, under hot lights, camera flashes and loud music. It’s quite sad, quite sad indeed!

  165. Right on John. Its sad to see that there are so many immoral people in the world theses days

  166. Helen,

You hit it right on with how we all sane people are thinking about Palin!

She is only a heart beat away from becoming our President and to think she can run this country when she isn’t intelligent enough to articulate her answers to one of the easiest question out there…she couldn’t name a magazine she read. Don’t even talk about politics, the economy our health care because it’s too big a topic for her to answer unless she is prepped by those idiots who prepped our current BIMBO (Bush).

  167. You nailed it. She takes us all for hicks and idiots.

    Bravo.

  168. wow yall are stupid its mind boggling to see how many uneducated idiots there are to agree with this blog

  169. Gee, Helen … tell us how you really feel. :)

Here’s hoping you don’t wait nearly a year before posting again.

  170. And Carol Nabb,

Are you Palin’s twin sister? You are obviously not intelligent enough to know that this adminisitration has gotten us to where we are now.

You should leave too! Go to Ur..anus because you are not one of us earthlings.

Americans, don’t trust me – really…go VOTE for Obama because I obviously am ERRATIC and impulsive. I can’t be trusted to make any decisions for our country. I chose a bimbo as my running mate!

I am join McCain and I approve this message.

  171. Thanks, Helen. I’m only 64 but I know bullshit when I hear it – having worked in corrections for the last 10 years. The only thing you missed is how bad this broad wants to be president. By the way, check out rollingstone.com for their expose on the “maverick” John McCain.

  172. earth2lisa thats a good name for you because its obvious to see that you havent heard from reality in a long time if you agree with this blog

  173. Can I just address the McCain Portion? Cause I know people are wondering too. I heard Palin mention on several occasions about McCain being a maverick and war hero. Also heard her state that he won wars. I’m sorry but what time was this in?

First off, you are not a hero because you got caught behind enemy lines. You didn’t escape on your own. You didn’t destroy alot of troops. All you did was get caught and not give up any information. Someone else came over and helped to get you out. That makes you someone that doesn’t plan very well. Rambo was a war hero. Chuck Norris and Arnold Swazenegger were war heros. Only thing is it was in a movie. Speaking of which, watch the movie “Behind Enemy Lines” to learn what a real hero does. Did McCain receive the Medal of Honor? Basically lets cut the crap. War hero not!

Next he has not won wars. There is a difference between fight, battle, and war. He may have won some fights but not the other two. Colin Powell has won wars. Get the picture.

Maverick, Where do I start. He is close to the oldest living person in congress. For that he is a maverick. Come on. He’s been there 26 years and how much has he really changed? Now that he can see the guy with the black robe and cape on, he all of a sudden wants to change. PLease. That didn’t start until he heard Obama say it. sure you stood up on some bills and legislature and for that we commend you but you are not a Maverick.

I mean really dude, you cheated on your wife to be with the woman you are with. Voted for less change. Chose a clueless running mate to be your VP and God forbid something happens to you, your change involves that stupid person taking over? Is he really a Maverick?

  174. Helen, what exactly do you mean stupid by Alabama standards. I hate to think you might be related to one of the finest men ever to cross the Alabama, Georgia state line, the ex pres of Auburn Univeristy. Nonetheless, since we live in America and are entitled to our opinions, I have one for you.
“There’s a special place in Hell for women who don’t support another woman”~Margaret Albright.

  175. Obama/Biden…
    Osama Binladen…
Not a whole lot of difference there

  176. Bravo. I can picture my grandmother, who passed away in her 90’s more than 10 years ago, saying exactly what you are, but with a bit of Yiddish thrown in. And don’t mind the detractors. You go girl!

  177. yes you go girl thats the way to screw up this country one more person at a time

  178. Helen, great post. I’m sure you’re startled by all the visitors to your blog, which apparently was never meant for broader public consumption, so I appreciate all the more the fact that you have left your post up for others to read.

I notice that your critics offer little by way of a reasoned defense of McPain. It’s all about how you are immoral, foul-mouthed, wretched, and on and on. Well, none of that is true. You are a genuine patriot, and I’m thrilled to listen to you speak your mind.

  179. A book banning pro incest pregnancy candidate in the White House? God help the constitution if that happens.

  180. LMAO! Helen I think I love you. LOL

And carol nabb–you have your head up your ass. Can you see Alaska from there?

  181. As are most idiots that cant see the truth through all of the evil things in this country created by people like you

  182. John @ 3:47:
    “Yall all need some learnin”

    Rigggghhhhhttttt.

Get it straight, Sweetie. It’s either “Y’all need some learnin’.”, or, “You all need some learnin’.” Use of a double “all” there is bad learnin’. Really…get with the program, Dude.

  183. book smarts cant run a country so come back when you get some common sense and then you can give me the learnin i need

  184. btw right isnt spelled with 4 g’s 5 h’s and 5 t’s

  185. of course you have nothin to say now… the truth hurts dont it thats why you dont like palin shes double the woman with double the values that you could ever wish to have

  186. John wrote: “book smarts cant run a country so come back when you get some common sense and then you can give me the learnin i need”

Well, there’s always beauty pageant smarts for Ms Palin to fall back on.

  187. I cannot thank you enough for having the courage to say what others are reluctant to say. May God give you a long life.

  188. “John” – you are a disgrace to the human race!

  189. yet again the truth hurts dont be mad that a woman can out do you with her “beauty pageant smats”

  190. Someone might want to look into attending a meeting of the local chapter of Rageaholics Anonymous.

  191. “David” – your an immoral person who obviously agrees with all the evil in the human race

  192. peter if i wanted to hear from the peanut gallery i would’ve asked you

  193. Yo, John: I pray that we will finally elect a president and vice-president who actually have “book smarts”. I’m looking for EDUCATED, INTELLIGENT, WELL-READ, PREPARED TO LEAD, ABLE TO HOLD THEIR OWN IN BASIC CONVERSATION….Yes, Dude, that is EXACTLY what we need. Why are you so afraid of “book smarts”, anyway? Does an educated level of dialogue scare you?

I stretched out “Rigggghhhhhttttt.” so that any intelligent person reading it would know that I meant for the word to be stretched out in the reading of it. Obviously, that escaped YOU.

Back to the important person at hand: Hey, Helen: Continue to speak your mind and know that you are supported by intelligent people who are not afraid of scary book smarts.

  194. ‘yet again the truth hurts dont be mad that a woman can out do you with her “beauty pageant smats”’

Personally speaking, I’m thrilled Palin is on the ticket. She’s dragging McCain down in the polls, and her selection only went to show up what a craven, irresponsible politician McCain has turned out to be. She is going to guarantee his loss, while dragging down the Republican Party in lower-level races.

Sorry, but I don’t see a downside here.

  195. Absolutely agree with you Helen. There are morons and super morons. Palin is a moron and supporters are supermorons. I was a Republican and after Palin’s shameless selection I am out. I just finished reading great speeches of Abraham Lincoln. And here we have Palin trying to occupy his place with winks, betcha, darn, and crap.

  196. Thank you, Helen!

Can’t wait to read a follow-up post…..please ignore all the negative comments – especially from John, who obviously has too much time on his hands. Get your own blog..

    Helen – you rock!

  197. so what your sayin is you want the country to continue goin down hill ohhhh now it make sense you like a sucky economy, no jobs, and immoral practices abroad. btw your “educated level of dialogue” does not scare me and if you want to use that thats fine but i’m not in this world to float your boat so i’ll talk how i want (oh and if you want book smarts just tell me and i’ll teach you a thing or two)

  198. i dont have time i make time sorry i would like a better world to live in and do my parts to try and make it so

  199. Say Good Night, John.

  200. its still daylight

  201. Helen heres the best advice i can give you “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:1 & 2

  202. You Rock Helen!!!!

  203. Helen, you hit that one out of the park! Outstanding!

  204. To john toe frequest poster of put-downs. You are exactly the mentality we cannot understand yet we hope all the best for along with all the rest of us. You seem full of hate against this brave woman who has seen much and done much in her years and was bold enough to call bullshit when it needed to be called. You also seem to hate those of us who are standing up for right, tired of wrong.

If you don’t like the post, I suggest find one you do and comment there. But in the america today and of our forefathers we have freedom of speech so you CAN bash approximately (at least)half the population and you can type against an 82 year old woman. But, you’re getting nowhere. Yet, you are able to because of our rights. Helen has her rights as do we all, thus the hate comments as well as praise here.

Speaking of right to free speech, Obama has been dealing with hate during his rallies (http://www.washtimes.com/weblogs/trail-times/2008/Sep/19/protesters-disrupt-obama-rally-in-floridaf2c45/). He asked people to let him finish his speech but they were allowed the right to their opinions; he stayed in focus and allowed those who oppose him to have their views acknowledged as well. What happened to the war vet who protected at the RNC along with other protesters? Roughhoused and arrested. http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/35828 and http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26471627/. Heck, just google it goshdarn and you betcha.

This says a lot for differences in tolerance between free speech between the parties. And this is why oyu can come here and say what you want, however viceral and gutteral it is, or intelligent and factual.

    Helen, you go girl.

  205. Helen, you are absolutely right on target. Palin is a bitch; And she’s a dumb ass. She, herself, has given this country (and the world) all the evidence we need to support both of these claims, which speaks volumes to McCain’s “judgement” (and motive).

To Larry, who obviously was never trained in how to respect his elders: I am a MAN. More than that, I am an intelligent (what idiots call ‘liberal’) democrat, who makes decisions based on SUBSTANCE instead of RHETORIC, INNUENDO, LIES, and MIS-CHARACTERIZATION, without regard for whether a candidate is of one party or another. Larry, do you have kids? If you do, listen to John and Sarah some more. Remember when you voted for Bush and Cheney ?

  206. Angela Marie….
I see you are aspiring to be something that you are not. (Palin fan I presume?). I believe the word is spelt definitely, not “definately”.
As long as I am in teaching mode: Sarah Palin is imminently unqualified to be the head of even her very own dysfunctional household. Instead of switching channels when she makes a TV appearance, (as I now do when Bush appears), I would be tempted to boot my TV set out the door.
Come Nov 4th I will be voting for intellect and vision, not ignorance and shortsightedness.

  207. Amen!!!!

  208. I dont quite qualify for this debate since am an outsider & not an American citizen or resident. But let me put in one thing which all the people outside dislikes to admit (though they secretly agree) – The security & stability of this planet primarily rests upon the governments of U.S & Russia.

So becoming a VP of U.S is definitely “one toughest assignemnt” one can pick, especially since he/she is the 2nd in Command of the Country. Do Palin qualify to talk/negotiate/articulate with guys like Vladimir Putin who are such seasoned, Stone Cold Spy masters !!! I dont think so…in the words of Matt Damon “If Palin becomes the VP, its like a Disney movie gone wrong…very wrong”.

    Meanwhile Great work Helen…

  209. Helen….
Kudos. You have expressly stated what many understood to be the undiluted facts.
I salute and blow kisses to you. You my Lady, are a true American of a dwindling variety and a patriot who recognize danger whenever it “rears (its ugly) head”
    Live long and prosper………..

  210. Thank you thank you thank you!!! You really did put into words what people are thinking. Palin is an embarrassment to this country. We are the laughing stock of the world because of her. She’s set all the hard work of the women’s movement back decades! Imagine a man behaving the way she did in the debate – it’s disgusting!

Palin IS a lying, conniving, bitch!

  211. i’m glad all of you have nothing better to do than name call it shows what this world is coming to

  212. As a younger person who isn’t making her way in the world via an electric scooter, I really appreciate the words of an old broad. Helen, you have it, you gave it, and you got it right. Keep it up.

  213. Helen, thanks for the plainspoken wisdom. You give me hope.

  214. Commenting only to say that I can’t think of a single thing I would add to Helen’s post. As far as I’m concerned, “ditto!”

  215. its amazing how blind yall are

  216. IN REF TO: By: just me on October 5, 2008

THE ONLY THING PALIN AND I HAVE IN COMMON IS A VAGINA. I AM WELL EDUCATED, INTELLIGENT AND INSIGHTFUL AND CARE ABOUT UNITING THIS COUNTRY NOT DIVIDING IT WITH CULTURE WARS. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY TOO MUCH TO RUIN IT. NO “JUST ME” THIS WOMAN AND I HAVE NOT A DARN THING IN COMMON BESIDES A VAGINA AND BOOBS!!

  217. I’m spending a buttload of time reading the comments! Wow! Helen, I love this post! And I find it interesting..to the woman who commented that maybe we dems would be “happier if Palin and her daughter murdered their children” I’d just like to say: No, we wouldn’t. It was their CHOICE to KEEP their children. And that’s what we LOVE. That they had the CHOICE to make!!! People who are pro-choice are not pro-MURDER. Learn up and figure out how to differentiate the two already!!!!!

  218. Yeah, but do you LIKE her?

  219. Helen i want you to take a look and see how no one responds to truthful comments

  220. Well put. As one male who didn’t fall for her obvious attempts at seduction, I’m angry at my former party for such a poor choice. It’s incredibly sad that Americans are willing to vote based on someone being cute or spunky. I fear for this country.

    Republican voting for Obama.

  222. i fear for it to cause instead people would rathar vote for immoral liars

  223. The only immoral liars I see are McCain/Palin…

  224. yet again “its amazing how blind yall are”

  225. Awesome! I love everything you said, except the part about her not being “stupid by Alabama standards”… I am from Alabama. I am a very intelligent, educated, young woman. In my opinion, she is the dumbest woman I have ever seen actually get air time on TV. She embarrasses me, and I don’t even know her. Sad…

  226. Evidently, there are those who rather enjoy listening to the sounds of themselves typing.

Meanwhile, back on planet Earth, thanks again Helen, you’re a peach!

  227. Brilliant rant! Thank you.

Can we please try electing someone who isn’t a fundamentalist idiot for once? Isn’t it worth a shot? I know being a moron is the “in” thing now, but I think well-educated, calm, forward-thinking people deserve a shot too.

  228. To Hari – we appreciate an outside of American view as well. I think this speaks volumes actually. If people from outside the US are laughing at us (which I know they are) about Palin, this means a lot. We have to repair our standing with the world. I am an international traveler and I am sad to see the US isn’t seen as it once was. Our world become ssmaller as we shut the res to fthe world out, which the US has been doing, not to the delight of those of us which would like to actually travel outside the US borders. The fact that outside the US people prefer Obama means a lot to us and I hope we can make the right choice in November, the one that will re-unite us with the world and reinsure dafe travel for us, as well as good relations and economics all around.

I am not white (Hawaiian!), not male (I’m a “chick”) and not falling for it (Siding with Obama/Biden on the election). Please, don’t hold the mistakes of our leadership against all of us. There are many good Americans here.

  229. well your definately “in” right now if you agree with this woman

  230. Rock on Helen.

  231. Ok, I had some spellcheck moments, but the thoughts were genuine!
    ssmaller – smaller
res to fthe = rest of the
did I have any others? Don’t wanna be spell checked any more than I have to ,especially since I only have one properly working arm and the other is injured.

  232. Peter just who are you refering to i’ve seen your name quite a good many times as well

  233. Helen needs to be on Ellen!!!!
    (i mean..on her show….not actually ON Ellen….you know what I mean…)

  234. Hey, Helen. I’m 57 years old and I hope I’m as smart and perceptive and literate as you when I’m your age. Rock on, darlin’, you’re right on target.

  235. Helen,
You are a hit! I liked your post.

I encourage everyone on this site to register to vote! Then on 11/4 – please vote. We have an obligation to the world to make an informed decision. Do your part and vote!

  236. So just how is it that abortion (the KILLING of a totally innocent human fetus) is a choice, but capital punishment (the killing of a guilty human adult) is murder?????

  237. @carol nabb – Because one isn’t a small collection of cells replicating in a woman’s belly? Pick up a biology book. Learning is a good thing.

  238. I’ve never visited your site before, but I think I love you. You said everything I feel, and more. I can’t stand that pandering woman, and I don’t understand why ANYONE thinks she’s worth of any title other than “Wicked Bad Mommy”. Certainly she’s no politician, nor is she the brightest bulb on the tree. I can’t wait till Nov 4 to see McCain and Palin skewered in the polls. Every day Obama pulls further and further ahead because much of this race IS about personality, and we’re sick of being lied to, pandered to, and thought of as morons. We don’t like mean. We don’t like dumb. And we DO NOT WANT 4 more years of Bush politics.

  239. You go girl! Thanks so much for writing what MANY of us are thinking. If I have to read one more time about Palin’s ability to resonate with women, I think I’ll puke. She’s an insult to our gender.

  240. Tell it like it is, sister! :D

  241. The McCain campaign announce today that they are starting a smear campaign. It saddens me that a candidate for the President of the United States needs to stoop so low to try to win an election. What has politics come to?
Fortunately, Obama is a man of dignity, grace and strong moral fiber. He will not lower or reduce himself to even qualify these smears.
John McCain is certainly NOT the same man as in 2000. He seems desperate and feeble. Adding “the Gov” to his ticket will, hopefully, end the nightmare of the last 8 years because I can’t believe that anyone with half a brain would be so stupid as to vote them into office.
My schauzer is smarter than Palin.
And, finally, Helen…thank you for expressing what, hopefully, is what a majority of voters are feeling and thinking.
    WE CAN’T ALL BE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  242. All I have to say is YOU GO GIRL!!
You are fantastic and you say exactly what many of us think.
    Keep blogging. We love you.

  243. Thank you for writing this…MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! It is appalling that the McCain camp is making false claims about Obama in a desperate attempt to make gains in the polls. Like many Americans, I have had quite enough of them stooping so low, and have lost all respect. I cannot wait to vote for OBAMA!

  244. SO…does it really matter how old Helen is or isnt, or whether this is a blog from her or a bunch of teenage kids??? The fact of the matter is, what was said here is probably the tip of the iceberg!! Oh wait, do they have any of those up there in Alaska??? And Ms Sarah says she’s an outsider…
Lets just think about one thing…Troopergate! I’m not saying that she’s guilty or not, but the fact that she and her husband ( the first dude..haha..does he have tea parties??), refuse to testify on Troopergate, and will do anything to make it go away. Now, if thats not true Washington inside politics, I don’t know what is!!!!

VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN, and I bet we will get HILARY as well :)

  245. Would it be possible for Alaska to take the place of Alabama at the bottom of the list? We’re all doing what we can here.

  246. reading that was better than sex!

  247. Oh…I don’t know…have you ever shot a moose from a helicopter??

    better than sex, my friend…

  248. you nailed it!!! thank you!! plus, i love the humor in your writing – honest, to the point and so clear. I laughed out loud – one, because its true, and two, because its a little scary that this is a person who has made it to the national stage on absolutely nothing!

  249. Thank you for saying what so many people are thinking, Helen. :o ) You bluntness & fearless honesty remind me of my beloved great-grandma (she was a feisty open minded redhead till the day she died 14 years ago). I only hope a majority of Americans see Palin/McCain for what they are BEFORE Election Day. I hope you don’t mind, I have linked to this post from my Twitter. :o )

Take care & keep fighting the good fight!
    ~Stacie Obama/Biden ‘08!

  250. God love you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This post needs to be spread far and wide. You go girl!

  251. Helen:

You are great. Why aren’t you one of those talking heads on the networks? You weren’t afraid to make lot more valid points than I’ve heard elsewhere!!

  252. McCain made a reckless decision in choosing Palin as his running mate. It’s hard for me to laugh at the situation, because McCain might win, but I appreciate the comic relief nonetheless.

  253. Amen.

  254. In honor or Biden’s loss today i think we should all now shut up, for a while at least. Give the amn and his family due respect. Just stop fighting for a bit, for a little while.

  255. I use to respect McCain. No longer. Have you ever heard republicans use the word “sexist” as often as they have since Palin was introduced to the world?

Palin makes me cringe. Thankfully, my 14 year old daughter is wiser than Palin and knows that Palin is not a role model.

Thanks Helen. You took the words right out of my mouth!!!!

  256. agreed wonderful, and true!

  257. PALIN quote of the day…. “People say that I speak too simply, or don’t have quite the — I don’t have my thesaurus in my back pocket all along through my speeches,” she told donors in Englewood, Col. “Well, I don’t have time for that.”

I bet she doesnt even know how to use one!!

  258. Helen -You are awesome. You really hit the nail on the head. Your Thanksgiving letter was also hilarious. Keep it up!

  259. my words exactly. Neither he nor she know what the truth is. Why hasn’t anyone investigated her messes in Alaska?? There is alot more to hear on her shady pass!

  260. I’m 60 and this is my first time to blog, but I had to say “Right on Helen!!! I can’t understand why some of my women friends like her – they tell me that Sarah Palin speaks for all women. No – she does not now, nor will she ever speak for me. Sarah Palin is a narrow minded, homophobic, book burning, animal killing bitch. W and his cronies have chipped away at our rights in the name of national security and if McCain/Palin get in office, it will be a very sad day for women and for anyone who is different. Wake up America – Sarah Palin is not the second coming – she is the Anti-Christ!

  261. Do you want a Vice President or President that winks and says GOLLY?

  262. Bravo, Helen!

  263. Will you be my new grandma? My family sure could use a shot of spirit like yourself.

Great work on the blog. I love opinionated birds….I hope one day, that I can have a voice like yours.

    Keep up the great work!

  264. Amen, Margaret & Helen. I’m glad you are out there and on online!

  265. OK sorry what I meant above was the outside pieces I am seeing disgracing Biden about his mother in law dying today. I am just mad that people have the gall to scream about a man losing someone AGAIN. To those here supporting the ticket, yeah buddy! But to those seeking out news clips about Biden losing his mother in law and using it as a place to be mean, grow up. You stink.

  266. Bravo Helen you nailed that moron.I posted some thing similar to snl blog where I had your link.Thank God that at least people can realize how dump and uninformed she is.I cann’t believe she couldn’t name a newspaper she reads or have heard of in her state Was she really the Mayor and governor?I betchu I’m going to run for office in Alaska.I don’t hear her slogan “thanks but no thanks to …”Have the Mclies camp warned her to stop it?I think so.Ride-on Helen

  267. Right ON Helen. I’m embarrassed to say I’m an Alaskan, but it gives me hope to read all of these responses. I used to respect McCain, but the day he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate was the day he lost me and many others. So much for “country first”–it’s “ME first”, obviously.

Get ready to vote, people–they can’t take another election from us!

  268. Thanks Helen, that’s a really fun way of expressing our exasperation at the painful thought that someone like Palin is just a heartbeat away from being President if elected as VP. May God spare America.

  269. Ohhh Helen,

I love you! Is your invite to Thanksgiving open to everyone who reads your blog? If so, I’ll send in my RSVP here. I’ll want to be celebrating the Obama/Biden win with you instead of my in-laws who just returned from a Palin rally a few hours ago.

I’m so happy your blog is getting the attention it deserves. I have a feeling there is more to come!

  270. I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. I love you. I’m 44 and hope to be like you by the time I’m 45. Thank you for taking away a lttle of the grim, constricted feeling I hve had for so many weeks.

  271. [...] 5, 2008 · No Comments Helen says out loud what others are thinking: Sarah Palin is an ignorant, ranting, whining bitch. There I said it. But [...]

  272. Hahah you tell it….I wish my grandma was at your mindset lol….omg finally someone who else thinks along the lines as I do…..If palin gets in this counry is screwed and you all know it…..

  273. err country….well in the words of Palin….Goshdarnit you know what I was saying. lol

  274. first off thank you , i dont think palin is a a bitch, just a real fucking dumbass, or that is how she comes off, and second shame on all of you who are talking bad to these to old ladys, i was raised to respect your elders and if you didnt no matter how old you are,you would get smacked in the mouth, so ya’lls mother should smack ya’ll right in your smartass mouth for being rude to 2 old ladys. Texas should leave the U.S.A, Republic of Texas, sounds good to me

  275. This is very funny….but she is NOT a bitch….she’s actually a slut and I’ll explain.

The girls and I were just playing our Sunday night Whist when my grandaughter showed me this blog. We all laughed and said bad words that mirrored the naughty thoughts in our heads.

When we heard about Gov Palin’s daughter being pregnant, we gasped. Then someone read about she and Todd eloping and then EIGHT MONTHS LATER having their baby. Nothing about it being premature either (which no one would believe anyway).

We wondered, who are these ‘Christians’? How can Sarah speak the words of the Lord while practicing the actions of the Devil?

One of the ladies in Circle at church is a righteous woman who, we found out a few years ago, was a virgin at her wedding and her daughter was too. THIS is a woman that could act in a righteous way, but not Miss Beauty Queen/knocked-up trollop/Sportscaster/Mayor/Governor/Oil & Gas Head/small business owner/Mother doing a bad job Palin.

We guffawed when Ms. Couric interviewed her. Howled with laughter as Palin went on Fox saying she’d been somehow attacked or her words twisted. Heck, she twisted ‘em enough on her own and is dumber than a doornail!

Many of us are now thinking the Anti-Christ is among us and has chosen Sarah Palin as his messenger. How else to explain a loose moralled woman, begetting a daughter who can’t keep her legs together, and speaking the poisoned words of Satan (lies and half-truths) with a wink and a smile?

  276. You are my new online hero! This article was amazing and you should be the VP choice. Thank you for speaking your mind and letting everyone know what you really think about Shara Palin. You Go Girl!

  277. I’m absolutely delighted that ONE blog could generate so much conversation in this USA! Helen, my mom was much like you…gutsy, politically savvy, full of wisdom, and willing to call “bull” bull! It’s refreshing to read of someone who would be willing to share her insight and opinions with others… agree, OR NOT, it’s great to see the amount of dialog this has generated!

I find it so incredible that the Republican party, having access to persons with REAL experience, REAL intelligence and REAL political savvy would choose such a candidate! It’s totally embarrassing to think that (doubtful!!%#%!) American women are so keyed into having a woman in the White House that we’d be willing to tolerate such a candidate! It’s “over the top” to anticipate that we’re that naive!

Running as a presidential running mate means that one should be “presidential”… I’d anticipate that perhaps Palin took her “folksy conversation” lessons from George W… another 4 years of that is frightening to anticipate! It’s also sad to think that “identifying with with general public” could be misconstrued as needing to talk in such a manner. Our nation’s leaders need to be insightful, articulate, well-read, and able to carry on a meaningful conversation without being condescending and “down home”. After ALL, we A
we’re looking to elect a Vice PRESIDENT, who could, in an unfortunate instant, be required to lead our nation, engender world respect and actually understand the repercussions of the information that is shared with the public. Many people have endured “bull-in-the-china-closet” bosses and leaders who think that “maverick rudeness and inappropriate behaviors” are OK, simply because they’re “in charge”,. Folks… THINK of the repercussions of such a “maverick” in dealing with volatile or unstable nations! Shame on McCain to think that he could capture the women voters in America simply by this action! It’s embarrassing!

  278. Thank you Helen! I hope that when I’m your age I’m as intelligent and ballsy as you are.

  279. Yes, you did say what we are all thinking. Palin is a BITCH! Did you see the non-response she gave Biden after his emotional moment during the debate? Ugh!

Your blog made me cackle from beginning to end. LOL

  280. You are simply right with your observation. Thanks!

  281. I feel sorry for you ladies, likely having grown up with nothing but network television. Your kids probably went to public school, too.

I don’t think you could possibly have liked Margaret Thatcher. You are far too partisan for that.

You seem to me to be playing along with the media line, while women who can think for themselves feel very favorably about Sarah. Give her a chance. And to better educate yourselves on *your* wonderful choice, read:

    http://www.instapundit.com

Reading blogs and independent media is a good way to be informed. Network TV is lying to you. I’m a 39-year-old woman, a college graduate, a former network manager, and now a busy mother, teacher of three, and weekly tutor to ten children. The college-educated home-schooling mothers (dozens) I know are happy about voting for Sarah.

I don’t even have a television, so perhaps my views lean independent. Watching shows like “The View” shows me that you make bad choices about how you educate yourselves, and you say you value education.

  282. Right ON! I was so inspired by your comments on the beauty queen candidate that I had to write and tell you. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and am NOT a Palin pal. The woman scares a lot of people up here. Our newspaper blogs have heated up like crazy with love or hate for her. I swear, some people believe she’s off limits for criticism like she was the Virgin Mary or something? Your site was on one of the comment sections under the article about the SNL skit with Katie Couric. It’s SO refreshing to hear that Ms. Palin hasn’t fooled everybody with her perky, condescending mannerisms. She’s so fake, she makes me want to puke when I think of how close she is to being the most powerful person in the world. Oh ma Goddess! NOOOOOOOOO!

We had an Obama rally in town yesterday, and one of my favorite signs was “We can see Obama from Alaska!”

  283. re: john, and others claiming this website to be false.

my grandmother is 86 and equally thinks Palin is a bitch, and that John McCain, the maverick of the senate has sold his soul over the past 4 months by reversing his long held positions on nearly every major issue. If my grandmother owned a computer, her blog would say the same thing.

  284. My, my. I only wish that my family saw it the way you two do. I’m afraid for our country. I know everyone is watching, but why isn’t anyone LISTENING! The women (sara) doesn’t make any sense at all. I found your blog on the SNL web site. Someone left a comment to one of the videos and added a link to your site! Good job girls! I don’t understand why people aren’t burning bras over this! But thank you for having a voice (something that America lost long ago).

  285. Hi, Helen!

What a wonderfully funny, clear and pithy post. I had the best laugh I’ve had all week. I hope you will take this one step further and vote this election. I know we live in a red state, but I’m still hopeful that the more Sarah keeps yammering, the more Republicans will jump ship. “Keep talkin’, Sarah. You betcha!”

    Aly,
There is a lot of information that is being compiled about Sarah Palin that is on a blog site out of Alaska. There’s actually a movement going on up there right now to make her answer to Troopergate, get her appointed attorney general fired for telling witnesses to ignore subpoenas, etc… They’re doing great work up there. There are many comments after each thread so I suggest you just start out reading the main threads for the past week so you can catch up. Here’s the site. It’s great!

    http://www.mudflats.wordpress.com

That was how I found this site. Enjoy!

  286. Many people have asked me why I’m not inspired by seeing a woman running for vice president. For all of us smart, well-informed women, she is an insult!! I respect intelligent women like Condoleezza Rice and Hilary Clinton. But Sarah Palin is a joke. It’s UNBELIEVABLE.

  287. How come no one has pointed out (while all this mud-slinging is going on) that a response on this blog submitted this morning (Oct 5th) stated that: “Yes, Obama is black, but Palin is an uneducated white woman.”

Uh, Ms Jan Carter, are you basically saying that electing Obama – who is black – is the lesser of two evils as far as putting Palin in office? Ouch. That seems pretty racist.
    (or is just me?)

  288. Helen, I think I love you!

  289. Adam, I agree… McCain doesn’t seem the same lately. It’s like he has stopped running the show and someone else is running him. Recent months are not showing us the McCain we knew before.

  290. Helen, of all the blogs and commentary and punditry over Sarah Palin that has been written, yours is by far the most concise, intelligent and on the money evisceration of that manipulative, lying skank ho that we have seen made public.

But the real freak show are all these nut jobs that support Palin. I never in my life thought that the Republican Party and conservatism at large would be betrayed by their own bottom feeding people who believe that competence is a bad word, curiosity and learning are evils, that “Joe Six Pack” is more desirable than a formal education, that the truth should be avoided at all costs and that hypocrisy is not only a virtue, but a lifestyle choice.

These people have had their day. And it was long enough to wreck the economy, push for deregulation on everything that they could from lead poisoned toys from China to a financial meltdown in the credit markets, a loss 700,000 or so jobs this year alone, a war in Iraq that everyone now knows was based on lies and another in Afghanistan that has been mismanaged, an administration that hampered itself so much that Iran might have and North Korea has expanded nuclear weapons technology…the list of failures of their ilk are almost innumerable.

And this state of affairs lies at the feet of their discredited and disgraceful current President who was “an average Joe,” one with whom they could sip a beer. And the asshole STILL hasn’t found Osama bin Laden.

Like many others, I too call bullshit on these nattering, whiny, irresponsible, intellectually challenged, reality dodging Republican/conservative morons who have fucked up this country to the point where their own great, great grandchildren with be digging through the trash to find food because these motherfuckers didn’t care about THEIR future to understand that all a few winks will buy you is a warm and fuzzy feeling and a temporary erection, not a national security or economic policy.

    God bless you, Helen!
You have the thanks of a grateful nation.

  291. OMG- Helen- God love you! You are my SHERO!!
I have not seen the so-called professional pundits articulate the Palin situation as well as you have. BRAVO to you girl! And just keep preachin’ – hopefully your light will lead the way for some other lost souls out there.

  292. Helen:

Thank you for putting your wisdom in words for all to see!

I live in Malaysia. How America votes will effect the rest of the world. I hope the citizens of the USA realize this.

The thought of McCain/Palin in the White House gives me nightmares … it would be so tragic for the world.

So, citizens of the USA – please vote and vote wisely – for America and the rest of the world.

  293. BTW, Joe Six Pack..he can’t afford his beer anymore ’cause he either doesnt have a job or he has to pay way too much for gas. Oh, but thats the Big W’s policies..McCain is different..he’s a maverick….like maybe 10% of the time..haha!!

I wonder if Joe Six Pack was willing to trade his beer in for a “wink” ??

  294. You are so right about her!! I only wish that everyone else could see it this way! Palin is an uneducated bitch!

  295. But, but… she’s a maverick! LOLOLOL

  296. If you watch her face closely, you can see the point at which she hears the question and then she simply shuts off and a mangled mess of talking points spills out. A leader cannot let nerves or even a bundle of information overwhelm their processing abilities. If she cannot handle an interview with predictable questions posed to her, how could she possibly handle the job requirements as a Vice President?

  297. Wow! Helen, your blog is great! I can’t believe how many people have commented. I took the time to read every single one of them. Terrific writing Helen, many of us feel that way. I don’t know if I would go so far to say Palin is a “bitch”, since I define that term as being spiteful, ill tempered, and unpleasant. To me, Mrs. Palin doesn’t appear to be any of these, but she is guilty of being nauseously perky, cute, adorable, folksy, and ditzy. Traits well suited for a woman trying to win a beauty pageant and trying to impress the judges with ‘awe look how cute I am’, but not suited for someone trying to become the VP of our country, and God forbid if anything happened to McCain should he win the election, our future President. Helen I agree, she appears to be a ‘weak, pathetic woman who thinks big hair, winking, baby talk and self deprecation is somehow becoming of a woman who wants to lead the free world’. I am not sure what the Republican ticket was thinking when they chose Palin to be McCain’s running mate. I think the Republicans shot themselves in the foot by picking Palin. The McCain/Palin ticket does not represent myself, my values, or my views regarding the state of our country one bit. We have a low moral man whom cheated on his first wife with the woman he is with now; we have a right winged former runner-up beauty pageant contestant, who obviously could not instill good values in her own kids (use of birth control or abstinence to avoid teenage pregnancy). I definitely do not relate to hockey mommies, beauty pageant contestants, and Joe six packs, so I am not sure how either of these individuals represents me or my beliefs. Lord knows we do not need a continuation of the Bush regime in office for another 4-8 years. It would take to long to describe all the harm the Bush administration has done to this country over the past eight years. A good movie out in selected theaters right now to see regarding our economy and what the Bush administration has done to it is IOUSA. I suggest everyone on this blog go see it before Election Day. It’s a real eye opener into how screwed we are as a country and how bad things are going to get in the future. This movie is not getting much publicity, but it is a great movie to see right before election time. I can not wait for this election on November 4th. I always vote for whom I feel is the best candidate, I never stick to party lines. I can proudly say for this election without hesitation it is Obama/Biden all the way.

  298. I love You !

  299. Really? No one else can see this “amazingly original blog” by 2 82 year olds, who, by the way, refer to cultural pheonmenon that even the most sharp 80 year olds aren’t aware of, is NOT WRITTEN BY 2 80 SOMETHING year old women but by someone considerably younger who is an Obama Fan and probably on a Democratic payroll somewhere? Please, let me be clear: I AGREE with everything that was said in the post. I am happily Democratic, and thrilled to be voting for Obama. I DO believe Palin is woefully underqualified and it is a travesty that she is a VP candidate….

but I am also not stupid. An 82 year old woman is not going to say, “If my daughter came home one day from school saying…” since her DAUGHTER WOULD BE 60 YEARS OLD by now and any reference to her would be in the past tense, “If my daughter had ever come home saying,” or even more apt: “If my grandson came home saying,” or even great grandchildren.

I like the statements made about Palin. I just think it is highly suspicious that an 82 year old is BLOGGING….and not just emailing her friend?? Why? Blogging is a 20’something phenomenon, and not that others in all different categories cannot partake in it, but I am sorry: I am not buying. “Helen and Margaret” welcome to a new category on snopes.com, when people figure out this is a scam. (and of course you know everything about snopes, being savvy 82 year old blogging grannies, right?)

People are smart enough, just say what you need to say, you don’t have to make it a big lie advertised on the SNL website to get heard….

    Obama/Biden ‘08

  300. Does it really matter if it was written by an 82 year old or someone younger? The point is it is a pretty accurate analysis of Palin, her short comings and lack of qualifications and someone had the guts to write it and put it in a blog. Way to go whom ever the writer is and whatever age they really are.

  301. I think it was said best when I read somewhere, you can fool and mislead people at the beginning and that gets your foot in the door but at the end of the day, your going to have to know something if you want to stay.

With that I think it’s time to go for McCain/Palin, she did a great job of attracting attention with her capricious antics and embarassing use of English pronunciation but as you can clearly begin to see, it’s time for the people that know something to get some work done, playtime is over.

    *****OBAMA – BIDEN********

  302. When she loses the election could anyone ask her if she could pose for Playboy?

  303. Hi everyone. There was a time in my life where I would have tried to write each of you a little personal note thanking you for your comment, but I don’t think I could write so many notes at my age.

My grandson says I’m “just a little bit” famous now because of what I wrote. I don;t know about that but he was really tickled when he saw how many people were leaving messages. He understands all this stuff but I don’t.

My apologies to those of you from Alabama. It’s just a saying that old folks from Georgia have always said. I really didn’t think anyone could see this except Margaret and me. Margaret said she isn’t going to post anything about this because this is all to sophisticated for her.

I keep coming back because I think I am going to try and say some more. It might not be good. We’ll see.

One thing. Doesn’t it make you laugh at how some very smart people on TV are actually talking about how good she did at the debate? Did they watch the same debate as us?

  304. I could not care less if this was written by a real 82 year old or 16 year old intern at the DNC.

After the brazen lies of McMummy and Carribou Carrie, a real or even fake blog could not POSSIBLY do any harm compared to McMummy’s irresponsible tax strategy or Carribou Carrie conducting foreign policy from her backyard with her bionic LensCrafter’s glasses.

  305. Hey you!
this really could be written by 82 year olds! who sez we can’t blog!
My mother in law – oops – ex-mother-in-law is 98 & from South Dakota. I firmly believe – because she is a bitch of the right kind – that she would either learn to blog or make her mama’s boy blog for her!!!!
I am over 60 & a graphic artist that has taught herself photoshop, illustrator, QuarkExpress, and all the other programs needed to be the same. I am teaching myself website design programs right now – so knock off the old farts! We can blog circles around you kiddo!

  306. Fantastic! It’s as though you read my mind. And the concept behind this blog is hilarious and clever, regardless of who is orchestrating it. I just wish you used it more often! I’ll be checking back…

  307. Helen,
really be real. palin did pretty damn good on the debate – could you have done better? It was like Fred & Ginger Rogers – she did everything backwards & in heels.
Give the little gal just a little credit. I honestly think that all of you are demeaning women – all you all men here pretending to be women?
I personally like Palin – and so do many of my counterparts. Quit getting hung up on bitch/no bitch. Dig a little and get the real issues. i.e. does anyone know the history of the savings & loan failures back in the 80s? & how does that relate to what is happening today? does anyone here have any real facts or are they just here to trash Palin? Hmmm guess you all belong on a soap opera – spitful bitchy little shallow things. Does anyone here know what it takes to run a business? Oh, does anyone here even know what it takes to run a real job? Geeeee. Where are you all coming from – kindergarten?

  308. Right on!! Palin is an idiot. Took me 30 secs being subjected to her babble to figure that out.
This is just another pageant to her. If she were taken it seriously, she would learn a little more about the people she is trying to win over as she visits the states.
I couldn’t believe the stupid remarks coming out of her mouth when she was in Wisconsin in an effort to put all us women in the same class.
Simply put, keep your phony crap out of the whitehouse and out of my home.
The only good thing I can see is that my 16 year old daughter and a lot of her friends are worried about this. This is a good thing. They are paying attention already. Next election they will be voting and will remember this.
Parents, educate your children on both sides. Get them involved. Let them make their own decisions and challenge them on those.
It is a joke that Palin is McCain’s running mate and a mockery that she accepted. But, of course, the entire republican campaign has been a mockery and insult to the intelligence of the American people.
WI has recently become a target of a political game trying to desengranchise voters. The highest ranking republican official in the state, Attorney GEneral J.B. Van Hollen, filed an election lawsuit against Wisconsin’s Goverment Accountability Board. J.B. Van Hollen also happens to be co-chair for the John McCain presidential campaign in WI.
This move could throw out thousands of votes in the larger and more liberal cities like Milwaukee and Madison.
As if this isn’t enough, it has been reported that a large number of number of absentee ballot applications addressed to the wrong clerk of courts have been sent out by McCain’s presidential campaign. These ballots were directed mainly toward WI democrats.

  309. Dear Doodyhead,
I am a woman and I have been following the Sarah Palin story since she was nominated. I have been following the news out of Alaska. I’ve also opened my ears when she’s been on the stump, making rude, snarky comments about community organizers and Joe Biden’s age. Have you been listening? She does act a bit like a bullying bitch. Of course, when asked about the things she says, she says, “No, I didn’t mean it that way” all innocently. So yes, I think “bitch” is pretty fitting and judging by the news coming out of Alaska, the stunts she’s been pulling up there as Mayor and then Governor, you don’t disagree with her or else.

If you want to know more about her stunts in Alaska, check the Anchorage Daily News (google it) or there’s a blog site and a movement set up called Alaskans for truth. They don’t like the fact that she’s not cooperating with the Troopergate investigation now that she’s running for VP. She’s trying to block the investigation to which she earlier agreed to comply.

Just do a little research. There’s a blog site that covers her activities in Alaska since joining the McCain camp and she is being challenged.

Just read through the main threads, don’t get bogged down in all the comments if you don’t have hours to spend on the computer:

    http://www.mudflats.wordpress.com

  310. Sorry, I should correct that link. There is no “www”. It’s just:

    mudflats.wordpress.com

By the way, fact check all the claims she made at the VP debates. She’s been caught in many lies and continues to do so, ALSO!

  311. I AGREE with your blog. Palin is not suitable to be a politican. There maybe conservatives republicans siding with McCain and Palin for the sake of holding seats. There maybe people that blindly trust this fake I relate with you the people of America B.S. from Palin and I have served for US from McCain. Honestly, what are they going to do for the betterment of USA? Are they going to dodge the questions and bring the reputation and well being of America down with them? I’ll focus on Palin for now since the blog is about her. I dont want a “oh I ones was Ms. popularity with many joe 6packs in highschool” to become VP and have potential chance of crisis to be President.

She does not repersent educated-intelligent, hardworking etc. women of today or tomorrow. …I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WOMEN LOOKING HICK-PRETTY, BECOMING A HAND PUPPET, NOT KNOWING ABOUT POLITICS/AMERICAN HISTORY AND HAVE THE SKILLS OF A MIDDLE SCHOOLER (OH IM SORRY I SHOULDN”T INSULT THE KIDS BY COMPARING THEM WITH HER) WORSE THAN THAT, NOR THE QUALIFICATION OR SKILLS TO UPHOLD US ETC ETC have supporters still!! ITS JUST B.S.!
I dont want another monkey in charge…had enough with the one thats in DC currently…

AHHHHH!!! all I have to say is just forget the political parties UNTIE AS AMERICANS to stop this B.S.! and for the betterment of U.S.A !!!

PLEASE VOTE>> SAY HE** NO TO B.S.! We want stability, change and progression not depression and not abother monkey in office.

    AMEN!!

  312. Helen,

Your post is awesome – well said and well thought out. I posted a reply on your response to Margaret’s Hello? post, but I see they are now gone, which is good. This post needs to stay at the top for a while.

I definitely think anyone stating how well Palin did is just deluding themselves, although she didn’t do as badly as I thought she might. I was yelling at the TV when she wouldn’t answer the moderator’s question, but instead talked about whatever topic on which she had talking points. Her mispronunciation of nuclear also had me yelling at the TV. I just know that at the end of the VP debate I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, because she did well enough that some people might not see through her.

It has been said here already, but please get out there and vote – Obama/Biden!!

    Thank you, Helen.

    Toni

  313. First of all, Helen, Great post. I loved it!!! your views reminded me of my late Grandmother’s views, which are also mine.

To all the Republican’s who seem to only to come back with short worded un-educated responses like John at 4:50 today, “i dont have time i make time sorry i would like a better world to live in and do my parts to try and make it so.”

It just goes to show how dumb most people are, and how they are voting for someone who exploits their stupidity and gets their vote. Luckily, the intelligent people of this country are starting to wake up and see McCain and especially that idiotic blow hard Palin for the fake, evil, lying, pieces of garbage that they are.

It will be a scary day to see McCain/Palin win this election!!!!!!

By the way, I am a two time Iraqi war Vet. And from witnessing that shit hole in person, I can tell you that this war was never won, it was never a success, and it never will be. I am disgusted by Palin and McCain from saying that they would rather put more of our men and women in harms way for a losing cause. FUCK YOU Sarah Palin for your ideas on how to handle this war!!!!!!

  314. Please excuse my grammatical/spelling errors..You will still be able to make out my opinion above…thanks

  315. doodyhead,

When you were talking about the S&L scandal in the 1980’s, don’t worry. After Ms. Palin has been going around with falsehoods about “Barack Obama palling around with domestic terrorists.” and “I think the American people need to know the truth about Barack Obama and I’m gonna tell ‘em – you betcha!”, the Obama campaign has decided to bring up the big S&L scandal from the 1980’s – the one involving the Keating Five and John McCain.

You’re absolutely correct. Although factcheck.org has said that Sarah Palin is false in her rumors about Barack Obama and domestic terrorists, she continues to make her bitchy little comments on the campaign trail. Therefore, the Obama campaign thinks the American people should be educated on the 1980s S&L scandal since it mirrors what is going on today, and John McCain’s involvement in that scandal.

  316. I believe that low-income people do have a right to housing, but not at the expense of our economy. I believe there is a better way to do it than our stupid government reps. Everyone – black, white, brown, purple, green or otherwise – straight, gay or bi- all deserve a right to healthcare & housing, but not the way this was done.
There has to be a better way to insure equality. Your democratic politicians screwed our economy. I would love to think that all of us could come up with a better way to make things equal. I think we can= don’t you?

  317. To Gordon:

I would bet I have significantly more education than you…including PLENTY of biology classes. Don’t be so quick to look down your nose at someone who believes in the sanctity of LIFE, in ANY form. The miracle of a developing group of cells capable only of becoming a human being is one to be cherished, not discarded. Try not to be so condescending in the future, it may serve you well one day.

  318. Matt,
I appreciate you for all your hard work and efforts in Iraq. It’s funny that even General Petraeus states that the word ‘victory’ should never be used when discussing the end of the war, but McCain and Palin keep trying to shove that pipe dream down our throat.

I am an AF vet and was in the Gulf War. What a difference. A clear and solid goal that never changed. We had a UN Charter, we went in and did our job and went home. What he have in this war is no charter and the big business contractors running the show, talking the administration into staying in theater to continue to make money. I think it’s shameful.

Afghanistan is where we need to be with a clear goal and charter with multinational forces fighting right along with us.

You are a wonderful person for the country. I’m sorry for what you’ve had to go through and I am thankful for your service to this country.

  319. Way to go, Helen.!!!

Sarah Palin is an embarassment to intelligent women. The fact the John McCain even considered her as his running mate, much less chose her, makes me understand why he graduated 5th from the bottom of his college class.

To thionk that Americans would even consider electing her to an office that is one 72-year-old heartbeat from Prsident of the United States is an insult to women like Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir and Indira Ghandi.

The USA is becoming a laughingstock to intelligent people around the world.

The people behind the 9/11 horror have accomplished just what they set out to do. Our economy is a shambles due to a disasterous war and deregulation of greedy millionaires’ businesses. Now we have nominated an illiterate, uninformed female to run for the second highest position in our country–a women who admits to not knowing just what that office entails.

A word to those of you who think that an elderly women couldn’t have written that article:

Just because we are seniors doesn’t mean that we are brain-dead or don’t care about the future of our country. We fought hard for the women’s rights that you all take for granted!

  320. In response to doodyhead… I honestly think that all of you are demeaning women – all you all men here pretending to be women?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am a woman. I am a woman who would love to see a woman in the Whitehouse someday, but I want to see an educated woman, who is qualified for the job, with the proven ability to do the job. A woman who has good morals and values which are aligned with mine. I do not want to see a woman picked as a running mate who could potentially become the President, just because she is attractive and pleasing to look at. A woman picked purely on looks and her right winged religious values. A woman picked to sway the uneducated American masses that seem to value superficial factors such as looks over real qualifications or substance. A woman picked because of her right winged religious views sole to appeal to the religious folks who hold beliefs and views that are a bit more right winged the Mr. McCain’s. Attractiveness and good looks will never make up for smarts, and qualifications.

If Hillary were still in the running, she would have had my vote. If Condalisa Rice were in the running, she would have had my vote. Why? Because these are two strong, qualified, and educated woman who probably would have made a great president and done this country a lot of good.

Mrs. Palin needs to go try out for President of the PTA, the hockey mommie club or in charge of the cookie bake sale, she is underqualified for VP of our country.

  321. doodyhead,
Both parties were at fault. The democrats for pushing for more people to see “the American dream” of owning a house and the republicans for deregulating the companies giving those loans, the bundlers who were selling the bad loans and the greedy companies who bought those loans and pumped up their numbers to make their assets look more valuable than they were. There is plenty of blame to go around.

You seem like a reasonable person who is willing to look at all sides. Please read more about how this has happened. It’s a travesty.

The real question now is, who is better poised to get our economy back on track? I’m putting my money on Obama and so are the majority economists across the country.

  322. Do any of you actually realize that the deregulation began during the Carter administration, was strengthened during the Clinton administration and ignored by the democratic congress we now all love to hate. The same congress with the lowest approval rating EVER. Do any of you also realize that we spend 10 times as much annually for all services provided to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS than we have spent on the entire war effort. A war effort that has kept the vast majority of terrorists busy across the world while we enjoy relative safety in our own country. Anyone remember 9/11?? Those illegal immigrants receive innumerable benefits that our own poor citizens don’t enjoy and our congress has refused to do anything to curb their entry into our country.

  323. Sarah Palin said in the debate “also” that she wanted to extend the powers of the VP position over the legislature.

Now, here’s this woman with no experience, who knows nothing about this bailout, the war in Iraq (what was she talking about in the debate about talking in Iraq to al Maliki and “the Talibani”? No Taliban nor ‘Talibani’ in Iraq!), Supreme Court decisions or what periodicals she reads, but she has the nerve to say she wants MORE power over the legislative branch of our gov’t. That shows some major chuzpah! She’s a little too ambitious for my tastes, as she’s clearly out of her league.

  324. Carol Nabb,
Did you see the interview with Bill Clinton last week on Meet the Press? He discussed the deregulation and how his administration had an uphill battle with the Republican congress.

John McCain was for amnesty of illegal immigrants before he was against it. I agree though, we do need to close our borders and sort out who’s here before we can move forward on this. Neither candidate is talking about this right now, which I find disappointing. I guess the economic crisis is top priority right now.

  325. You are all filled with hate! can’t you stop your insults and name calling? who the hello are you? give all the candidates some the same fairness and critique their experience for this job!

what a bunch of hypocrites you are!

  326. And of course if St. Bill said it, it must be so….bullshit on that!

  327. Living in Texas
I love your debate. Actually, the S&L crisis was much more complicated than just the Keating Five – incidently 3 of the 5 were Democrats, so let’s be fair.
What I am trying to do is to get the people to think and dig for the truth. I do not trust the regular news people = so often it is just sound bites. Plus they leave out what they do not want the regular folks to hear. So much different from what news used to be – fair and unbiased.
Maybe you should consult factcheck regarding some of the other claims.
we have a small business. before clinton was elected we had 50 employees – we were able to provide them with healthcare benefits and were able to give them a 401K retirement program. After Clinton, they all complained because their checks were less. That is because taxes were raised, but whatever came out of their checks we paid double that! For every employee. Because of that we eventually had to lay people off & do away with the insurance and retirement. My husband & I went back to working 18 hour days. After the republicans got back – we were able to expand again and buy out a couple of businesses. Then we were able to give our employees health insurance again. They had benefits for several years. Now we have to cut back again. We cannot afford $6,000 a month for health benefits for our employees or for us. We are all without health insurance now – including us. It is just not big business that drives the economy, it is people like us with 50 or fewer employees. We consider our employees the most important part of our business. We want to provide them and their families with whatever benefits that we can, but the government gets in the way. You tell me. I work 7 days a week, 18 hour a day. We are struggling not to lay off any more of our dedicated folks, but government is making it harder and harder. We are involved in their lives, we know their children and their grandchildren. We have cook-outs with them. They are are our friends & the ones that keep our company going!
You tell me. How can we pay for their benefits when the Democrats are hamstringing small business? For years we were able to give them & yes ourselves health insurance and retirement benefits & able to grow our business to benefit and give nice raises to our employees. They were able to send their kids to college, they were able to buy new houses, they were able to buy new cars. Now, they are lucky to still have jobs.
Now, multiply that by all the small business owners in America and you will see. Not everyone works for large corporate America. Most work for people like us. Do your homework. We are middle America. We are hurting. And, we are laying off right and left and failing right and left. And, it is because of the Democrats – not the Republicans! The Democrats are destroying small business owners in America. They are throwing more and more regular American citizens out of health and retirement benefits. Please do your homework & please don’t just consult the biased media or websites.
We are probably going to sell out. Our employees will get sold out along with that, but if we can’t take a wage out of the business what will we do. You think if someone has their own business they have it made? They work 2 or 3 times as hard. One year I worked 5 months straight 18 hours a day with no days off. Yes I worked all Easter weekend, mother’s day, etc. January to May = not one day off! I had to do that to keep the business going. And, I have done that more than once. But the truth is if the Democrats get into power again, we will not do it. We will close the business down as we will not be able to pay our employees or the taxes. So goes another 50 jobs in America, but small business – it will go un-noticed, but be repeated all over the US.
    Heaven help us all!

  328. Oh, but Bill, we are critiqueing experience. Palin is deficient and a threat to the well being and credibility of this country.

If name calling and insults turn off, then I would assume McCain has fallen in your eyes. All I hear from his ads is exactly what you are condemning.

  329. doodyhead,

Excellent points made and I agree wholeheartedly. The government’s idea of “middle class” seems to be far different from those living in it.

  330. oh p…..all you hear from ALL political ads is negativity. If you put any credibility in any of it you are just plain silly.

  331. To all of you who believe that we republicans are unintelligent and believe everything we are told, are you aware that STATISTICALLY republicans have higher IQ’s, higher average incomes, and more education than those less fortunates in the democratic party?

  332. I research everything on both sides. My point was that hearing the republican ads turns my stomach. 99% of what they contain is insults directed towards the opposing party.
If McCain wants my vote, he has to earn it. That would start by telling something positive in his plans. Be offensive not defensive.

  333. How do you account for Palin, then? And, McCain was no scholar, either…

  334. ditto for the democratic ads….

  335. who said either Palin or McCain are not intelligent? Do you actually KNOW they are unintelligent? Do you actually have ANY idea what they really know or don’t know. Unless you are a relative or one of their employess, you have absolutely no idea…nor do I.

  336. Reading this blog passage has got to be one of the highlights of my day. Thank you Helen for being such an inspiration! Even though you are incredibly blunt about it, (funny nonetheless) I’ll have to admit I feel almost the same way about Palin… I’m very uneasy about the Republican ticket altogether, as I have compared both their and Democratic views. I’m just not impressed at all with the McCain/Palin standpoint, and I’m sure not going to give them any support whatsoever. I’m just hoping that the election will go in favor of what the US, and even the world, needs… Bush will be leaving us in shambles, but I’m confident that Obama/Biden will be able to bring us out of the slump and into better days. Realistically, it won’t be a sudden change, but any change for the better is good for me.

As for those “nay-sayers” and (aptly titled by internet forum standards) “trolls” who have nothing to contribute to the matter other than smart remarks and calling those who don’t agree with their viewpoint “immoral” and “evil”… how about you give proof and a solid stance rather than mouth off and call everyone idiots? Holier-than-thou attitudes will get you nowhere fast… all they do is make you all the more narrow-minded in everyone else’s eyes. But I guess having an open mind and a constructive opinion about something is considered a great evil to you guys, huh?

  337. I hope that all of you here either work for large corporations, schools, or government entities and not for small business like us. Those who are low wage workers for restaurants, Starbucks (already closing stores down), us – training folks for higher wage jobs, – or
I will never forget before the Clinton election. One of our employees came to us and asked what we thought. My husband said I can’t tell you how to vote. You have to vote the way you think is right. But, the only thing I will tell you is that your taxes will go up. Afterwards the fellow came to him – since his check was much less. What could we tell him? More taxes were being taken out. He said to my husband – maybe you were right. He had listened to the Democrats promises. I am sorry to say we had to eventually let this employee go because we could no longer pay his salary + the added taxes. That, folks, is what the Democrats do for you. He voted Democratic because of their promises and he lost his job.
We just recently had to stop benefits for our empoyees again! Shit! That is not what we want to do, but what government – the Democrats force us into.
I don’t know how to relate this to you except to try to tell you our experience. We want good employees, we want to pay them good wages, they are important to us, we want to give them benefits and have always strived toward that goal, but everytime we achieve it the Democrats strip it away! We are ready to give up. Let government take everything over. We are ready to go on the dole. We are ready to get on welfare. At 60 years old, do you think I want to go back to working 18 hour days/7 days a week?
Yeah, I think I will vote for the Democrats and let all of you guys pay for the money I will collect while I pretend to live under a bridge. Screw trying to take care of 50 employees. Screw their families. Screw thier dreams of home ownership, screw their dreams of sending their kids to college. let Washington take care of it – I’m frankly tired of working 18 hour days to make a company work & trying to get benefits for a bunch of hardworking American folks in the heartland. I’m voting Obama – he’ll give me everything. Screw my employees let them vote Democratic. Government should give me and them everything we need – why work? Let’s just all go on the fucking dole!!!!

  338. Actually, that is not so for the dem ads. Perhaps you should line them all up side by side and review. You’ll find it is quite the opposite. Not that the dems are completely innocent, but they are 99% selling themselves without bashing anyone.
And if the repubs are so intelligent, why then has the national deficet steadily gone while they were in office beginning with Reagan. It then reached a balance with Clinton and has steadily gone up when Busch took office with an almost vertical incline with Busch Jr.
By the way, by wages with Clinton also rose. We worked years of overtime and I raked in the cash. My daughter had the pleasure of attending Montessori due to this extra income. Oh yes, my daughter, my little Abby Hoffman. You should see her on her soap box. Did I mention she has as IQ that blows Palin’s out of the water? A near genius IQ that is. Ha! Even mine is higher.

  339. I am sorry for all those who felt a hit in during the Clinton admin. I don’t know what to say. I work for a business, I do not run one. We must’ve done something right.

  340. One last thing…regardless of what happened with what party in the past, what we have had recently is not working. Clinton wasn’t bad, but he was just as shifty.
Bush is shiftier. Sorry for the typo earilier. It’s late and I’m tired.
Anyhoo, during his second term, our wages were cut, we lost our pension, our cost of living, vacation and our insurance is way too ghastly to even bring up. Goodnight all.

  341. Hey Girl! My son, Erik Brown ,who wrote “I love you!” just above my post sent me your link! While my sone lives in California I live in Anchorage, Alaska.
I don’t mind Palin as our govenor but I just died when she was nominated to run as VP for the Repulican party.
Now she is saying that Obama is friends with terrorists….well her running mate was not so long ago endorsed by the communist government of Viet Nam. I ask, what interest is it to them to endorse any one for president of the United States let alone one of their former prisoners?(read more when you Google Viet Nam vets against Mc Caine for president) There are pictures of Mc Cain hugging his former captives…what’s up with that?We can thank the Republicans for “opening up” Communist China and getting us in the horrible finacial mess we are into for the tune of billions of dollars in loans that we owe them.
It’s funny in hind sight that when as a young women and my son was just a baby his father and I protested the war in Viet Nam. I can not tell you how hurtful it was to be called a red and a commie.Told to go back to Russia,etc……..
Well, the truth is that, in MHO, Mc Cain is the Manchurian Canidate and to vote Republican would be treason….So, lady, thanks for the post. But I do take issue with calling other women bitches….we are not dogs in heat…..just a slight issue…. :)

    Lauren In Alaska

  342. Doodyhead, (Sorry, I crack up every time I type your screen name)

I am sorry for what you and your friends have seen under the Clinton Administration. It seems like you’re still having problems. You’re right. I don’t own a home business. But can I ask you, did you do better under Bush, prior to the last two years when the democrats have been in control of congress.

Also, people discuss that it’s the democrats running congress who are making these bad policies. What the real problem is that I see is gridlock in Congress and nothing can get done. Although the democrats have a majority, it’s not enough of a majority to get anything done. In the House, you need to pass bills with over 2/3’s of the vote. The dems don’t have that. In the Senate, their majority is so slim that they have to caucus with Joe Lieberman so they have a majority.

On healthcare, did you know that McCain is trying to do away with employer provided healthcare. Here’s what he’s proposing – he will give a family a $5K tax cut to purchase private healthcare. What he doesn’t tell you is that he wants to tax your healthcare benefits so if you make $30K per year and the company benefits cost $10K per year, you will be taxed for $40K worth of income. What this will do is make the younger, healthier employees opt out of employer benefits only leaving the high-risk employees on the company plan. That will lead to insurance premiums going up and companies discontinuing healthcare benefits programs. Now that $5K credit I will receive for buying private health insurance will have to go toward a plan for my family that will cost of $12K. I think that is very dangerous for the future of healthcare in this country and it will further clog up our emergency rooms.

As for small business, Barack Obama’s plan is to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses, cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in the United States, and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of healthcare and to reward investments in innovation.

I don’t know what McCain’s plan is for small businesses, but economists have gone over Obama’s tax plan and believe it can be implemented and will give the majority Americans a tax break.

I was looking at McCain at first, as I was a McCain fan in 2000, but I don’t know what has happened to him. He seems to change his platforms, when he actually has some, with whether or not they “poll well”. He seems to put country first but I’ve only seen gimmicks from him beginning with the gas tax holiday, then picking Sarah Palin for his running mate, “suspending” his campaign, and now claiming he’s the big regulator after years and years of fighting for less regulation. He’s just not believable to me anymore.

Finally, he said that he was going to run an honorable campaign. He’s been very negative throughout his entire campaign and when asked why, his response was that if only Barack Obama had agreed to those town hall meetings, he would have run a cleaner campaign. That excuse doesn’t wash with me. I don’t know of anyone running for office who would allow their opponent to dictate how to run their campaign. I think it was odd that McCain wanted Obama to run alongside with him. Was it to get more people to his town halls? Was he going to “stack” the audience? Who knows, but I will tell you that I would never allow an opponent tell me how to campaign. That would be downright stupid.

  343. You’ve just convinced me that old people can still rock. Awesome blog, Helen.

  344. Look at where the strongholds of the Democratic pary is. Large population areas. On both coasts. Listen to this. Back when we were having some of the same problems under Carter when people were being laid off say at General Motors.
Some of my relatives came down to Texas at that time to look for work. Yeeeks. Guess what they really did not want work. This was years ago when $5/hr was a really good wage in Texas. You could actually afford a pretty nice rent & take care of your family for that – at least here. They refused to work. They refused $5/hr jobs! I was like so go back to Michigan dudes, but they were like = no things are cheaper here! So, they used their union unemployment benefits to prosper down here in Texas when at $5/hr you could make a living. & their union unemployement was like $15-20/hr. Whow did they prosper. They bought big homes. But, they refused work. The unions paid them too much – and of course the Democrats were tied to Unions and of course it took us years – again to overcome the stupid Democratic take on business. But, we finally did and all the overpaid union workers went back to work, but eventually all the overpaid UNION workers finally lost their jobs to workers in other parts of the country or other countries because the unions finally negotiated all the workers out of jobs!!!!! You know business can only pay so much for labor or charge so much for produce. If you can’t sell cars because nobody can afford them, then you can’t afford to pay anyone to make them. Bye bye jobs. Unions were very important at one time in America, but they became detrimental to business. If you have to pay $15/hr to make cars then you cannot make a car that the average American can afford. Truth. So, move the building of cars south of the border. Now, the average American can afford a car. Well, crap the unions think they were screwed. Now, think about it. They made 15/25 an hour and wanted more according to the union. Price of cars up/people can’t afford since average was $5/hr. DO THE MATH FOLKS. The unions negotiaged the car workers out of jobs! But the unions still had their cadilaccs, etc. I will never forget working for a printing company that was able top put the “UNION BUG” on printing (therefore able to print union books) So those guys in the union – not me – said oh well we have retirement we have this that and the other. I said, sorry, but nobody is gettig any of my salary. If I have to negotiate my salary, I believe I can do that on my own & not have to pay anybody else = let alone some creep driving around in a stretch limo!
Low & behold they declared that particular union bvankrupt – the retirement fund was no longer there. Nobody really knows what happened -that was during the days of HOFFA – so nothing was ever concrete pardon the pun. So all the years they paid $40 out of every paycheck went for naught. Seems the union just made up their rules as they went along much like the Democratic party who has always supported them. Read your history chilens’ – do your research. Do you want the truth or do you just want to keep crying “Bitch” in a fantasy land soap opera?

  345. Carol Nabb,
I think there are both intelligent and stupid people in both parties. I’d like to know where you got your statistics that Republicans are generally smarter than Democrats. I don’t know about statistics just thrown out at me like that.

I think it’s wrong for one party to think they’re “smarter” than the other party anything and if anyone implied that the Democrats more intelligent, I don’t agree. I think both parties consist of a diverse group of people at all levels of education.

When you talk about Republicans being smarter, are you talking about the base, the moderates? And where do the Independents fall? I was always a moderate Republican, being a military vet, I tended to lean that way. However, I usually vote based on who’s running and the platforms upon which they run. I think this year, it’s a no brainer for me. Obama is my choice.

Picking up Sarah Palin was the last straw for me and I’ve tuned out to McCain. She may know Alaska inside and out, but as far as national and internation affairs, I feel she’s sheltered herself. My first cue was the fact that she is a middle aged woman who is running for a national level position and she’s never traveled outside of North America. She got a passport for the first time a year ago. I guess it’s a lack of interest or curiousity of the world around her turned me off initially. Then she started getting insulting and snarky on the stump, but would not allow herself to be interviewed about why she makes the comments she does. It seemed to me that she was mouthing off without having to answer for it. After the Couric interview, I saw why. She truly doesn’t know what’s going on in the world, much less the country and the fact that McCain tapped her for this position to get bigger crowds at his rallies and “the women’s vote” was just the last straw. She isn’t for many women’s rights from what I can tell. I’m not just talking about her pro-life position, but the fact that her running mate voted against equal pay for women. McCain said that if women wanted equal pay, they needed more training. And she’s running with that man. I don’t think she’s a champion for women. Hillary may be a champion for women (although I never supported her), but if McCain was trying to get the votes of disgruntled Hillary supporters, he can’t just put any woman up there. She is NO Hillary.

  346. Living in Texas – I love tht you crack up typing doodyhead. I really thought it would be a sort of ice breaker in getting everyone to get to the real issues. LOL. Don’t you love it?
Anyway, there are a lot of us here. And, many with different views. I love hearing all the different veiews. Even though I seem to be so entranced in my own.
Different views is what makes our nation the best in the world. Sometimes, it is far, far too too left, sometimes far too far right, and sometimes, like Goldilocks – it is just right! Don’t you think?
It takes all of us, with all our differing views to make up this great country of ours. Sometimes, people suffer from lefts in power, sometimes the other way around, but, make no mistake, we all let our governing folks know one way or another how we think – maybe that is why sometimes they really are afraid to do anything?
I love America, I love the left, I love the right & I love everybody in between. It doesn’t take a village to raise a child – it takes a nation like us!
God bless us all, regardless of our differences. God bless us because we have the freedom to express whatever we think. Wher else could we call a VP candidate a bitch? Where else could we call a Presidential candidate a womanizer? We live in the freeist, best nation in the world!
God bless us everyone no matter what we think!
Am I right about that are what – come on it is my only chance for anyone her to agree with me!!! LOL!

  347. doodyhead have you seen the movie IOUSA? You really should see it.

You might understand why taxes were raised when Clinton was in office. In order to balances this nations federal deficit and pay it off, you have to do a couple of things. One raise taxes to generate more money to pay off the countries debt and two cut spending on unnecessary programs or where ever you can make budget cuts. Those things happened in the Clinton years, thus the reason your employees checks were less. Taxes were raised.

You know what, during the Democratic Clinton tenure (believe it was in 2000, but I would have to double check) it was the only time we actually had a balanced budget (no over spending) and were on the road to eliminating the enormous country deficit which was slated to be completely paid off in 15, 20 years or something like that. During Clinton’s tenure the US National Debt Clock in New York was permanently turned off as the debt was being reduced.

That of course was until Republican George Bush came along and opened the floodgates to spending with his approval and funding of an unnecessary war. Bush has put this country at an economic disadvantage and into a black hole that it will never recover from. Our national debt has grown by over $4 trillion dollars during his presidency or over 71.9 percent. I won’t even go into the economic bail out plan that was just passed which will push the countries debt to over $11.31 trillion.

Get ready, one day the USA will no longer be the powerhouse of the world. Get ready, because that day is coming. We owe so many IOU’s to other countries and nations, that if they ever call on this debt we are screwed as a country because we can not pay it off. Get ready for China or some other country to be the new powerhouse, because it’s coming. All great civilizations fall sooner or later, just look at the Roman Empire. It will also happen to the USA.

This countries deficit is enormous, and is growing everyday. Our deficit as of October 6, 2008 is $10,19,071,226,211.20, which equates to a debt of $33,324.11 per ever citizen of the USA. The US National Debt Clock has been turned on again.

Unfortunately, once again, the only way to reduce this deficit will be to raise taxes and cut funding for programs. Kiss more of your paychecks goodbye, kiss more of your healthcare benefits good bye, etc, etc, etc. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I hope you are ready for that to happen. No matter who becomes the next president Democrat or Republican, it will happen, it has to happen.

Tell me, how either of the candidates can honestly say they are going to be able to reduce taxes when we have such a huge outstanding debt balance? I have yet to hear either of the candidates Republicans or Democrats even discuss, or address how they plan on reducing this outstanding balance. Issues that are extremely important are not even being addressed. We get to hear garbage about lipstick, Mavericks, and hockey moms.

The longer we continue to stay in Iraq the worse this deficit gets. We need to get out and get out now. Good God this country needs to admit that we were wrong in starting a war with Iraq and pullout. We never should have been in Iraq in the first place, but that is beside the point. We have Bush and his incompetent administration to thank for that, and while we are at it, thank them for the huge deficit they have created for this country, that our kids, grandkids and future generations are going to be paying for. Oh, and if you were thinking you would have your social security check in retirement some of you better think again. I seriously doubt I will be seeing that when I retire since this country does not have the funds to cover and pay for that either.

FYI- There was only one time in the history of our country that we were in balance and had no deficit and that was many years ago sometime shortly after we gained independence as a country. Seriously our National Debt is a really scary thing, oh and asks yourself this, when is the last time you have ever heard George Bush discuss the National Debt.

  348. doodyhead (LOL!)

I agree with you! Amen, doodyhead. :)

  349. doodyhead…FYI- Starbucks is closing stores down because they oversaturated the market in areas by haveing a Starbucks on every other corner. Basically equates to overexpansion without enough customer base to support all the stores.

  350. yikes, my English teacher would kill me. I was typing so fast that I misspelled & misused almost every word in the English language. Well, all you purists – hope you got the gist of the last message. Would love to meet you all back here tomorrow night or say better Tuesday night or Wenesday after the next debate. What a great time we will have then?
Love you all whatever your views. We are thinking. That is great! See you later. Thanks for fun.

  351. doodyhead,
I didn’t know that unions did that back in the day? Do they still do that?

It reminds me of people who stay on unemployment nowadays because of the minimum wage, but now, it’s so horribly low. Also, people make more money on welfare than they would on minimum wage. The gap between the cost of living and the minimum wage is now a huge crater. Obama is for raising the minimum wage and getting people back to work. ;)

Also, did you see what I wrote about Obama’s tax plan for small businesses? I wrote it above:

As for small business, Barack Obama’s plan is to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses, cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in the United States, and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of healthcare and to reward investments in innovation.

I know this won’t even begin to change your mind, but it’s my patriotic duty to spread the word about the candidate I believe to be the best choice this year. ;) :::saluting you:::

  352. doodyhead,
It was great talking to you. I will look for you after the debate. This should be fun. I wonder if McCain will grind his teeth and blow his top. I wonder if Obama will stutter. I’ll be making some popcorn for this one.

  353. Thanks Helen, It was very encouraging coming upon your blog. You speak for so many of us older white ladies. Keep it up!

  354. Oh by the way, I included white in my comment above, because the MSM never misses a chance to say that Obama has a hard time with the middle aged and older white female demographic. I think they want us to think it’s closer than it really is.

  355. Hi Helen
You can say 57 times what you just wrote & I will never believe it. Sarah Palin is so
HOT you’re just jealous, because you have never been like her & never will. At least she is no closet Muslim & has always loved her country. There is a radio station in Houston, Texas that has offered 10,000 dollars for a picture of Obama with his hand over his heart saying The Pledge of Allegiance. A big part of the trouble in this country is people like you I love my country & do not want to see it under the likes of Obama. When he is not elected & we do have McCain-Palin in the White House you will be free to leave this country & I hope you do with all you’re other left wing NUTS. Have a nice day
    John Kenedy

  356. Well,
I was fixin’ (texas term) to go to bed, but have to answer “Living in Texas” regarding how small and medium businesses did under the Clinton administration. The fact is that many people working for small and medium sized corporations did lose their jobs & their benefits.
I think many with larger corporations actually did the same. It is hard to explain, but the Clintons and the Democrats, in general, are pretty socialistic. Now, socialism, as a theory is commendible, but in theory as in Cuba it does not ever work.
Do your homework girls & boys, so you know what the definition of socialism really is. It sounds good in theory, but has failed any and every, time it has been tried.
Look we are the little guys. When the Democrats are in power us little guys cannot afford to pay our employees or give them benefits. When the repupicans are in power, we can. You have to know that we hire high school grads and give them a chance. Sometimes, kids that did not graduate. We train them. We pay for them to get more education to help our business. The Democrats think there is only big business and them. But, there are many small business people like us out there that are willing and able to take a chance on kids that maybe did not have the advantages of a Harverd ed – like obama – we don’t care, if you want to work and advance we will try you out!
The Democrats for all their posturing hurt the chances of the little guys to make it. The kids that for some reason just could not make it through high school, or went to Jr. College, but didn’t get through. During Repuplican times we were able to pay them to take courses through the Jr. College here to better themselves. We were helping the little guy and appreciating them. But, the Democrats stop all that for us and the little guys that could make it if they only had a chance!
The Democrats think it is only big business vs the little guy. It is not. Sometimes it is the little business along with the little guy that wants to make a difference and the Demoracts for all their posturing hamstrings us in everything we try to do. We had a program to help all of our employees to better their training. I am proud to say that we would pay for them to take hours of education at our local Junior College. It was a great deal for us and them really. Some left us to work for competiters. YIKES. Did they have no loyalty? Well, when we met up with them at community meetings, they did not forget the leg up that we gave them. And we did not regret doing so.
The thing is Democrats think that there is only big business vs the little guy. They don’t realize that sometimes the little guy is the business guy giving a little guy a leg up. The Democrats decimated what we were doing. We could no longer hire kids, give them benefits and train them.
Under the Republicans we could do that. We could take kids that could not afford to get an education – Hell – kids that did not graduate high school – and give them an even chance at the world – an even chance to pursue the real American dream. A chance to turn their lives around and live and dream for something!
Now, with the nation leaning toward Obama & the Democrats again, everything is drying up again. We are cutting back. We have no other choice. Will the business survive? Not if the Democrats enact what they say they are going to do. Were we ever rich with our own business? No, we made a pretty good living for a while. But we were never rich. We were rich in the way we could help kids that would otherwise fall by the wayside, when the Republicans were in office. Yeah, we were. There are kids – ha kids, maybe kids in their 30’s now and 40’s who would go to bat for us any day, because we made the difference in their lives. We paid for their courses at Junior college. We helped them. But sorry we are not big business, we are not big manufacturing. So, when those taxes are imposed on business – we will probably declare bankrupcty no more kids helped from us. No more 50 or less jobs here. How many others like us will fall – plenty. Because we are a corporation however small our business is. So, we will be taxed beyond our ability to pay and we will let our 50 employees go and we will lose our business. A business that for over 20 years has helped employees & their families survive the best of times and the worst of times & always come out on top. Bye, bye guys. Bye, bye employees. Hello big government. I just hate it. I always loved helping these girls and boys who barely got out of high school and sometmes didn’t even do that. And, yet we were able to hire them and encourage them and help them get educated. It really breaks my heart. It breaks my heart. I had to say it twice to make myself realize what is going to happen.
We will lose our small business, we will lose the opportunity to help these kids.
And so, many years ago the Republicans wanted to put restraints on Freddie Mac, et. al. But the Democrats refused. Do your homeowrk chilen’s the Democrats refused the controls on Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae years ago that would have prevented this economic crisis. Now they want to blame the Republicans. Once again do the homework and see what you come up with. Now they want you to believe that they are the ones to save the economy. Hell, they could have saved it years ago, but they were too dumb to see what was going to happen. Those that don’t remember the past (S&L crises) are doomed to repeat it!
And now we are. Too little too late. Those of you with a brain should search the internet & whatever libararies are available to you. Quit harping on Palin looking like a bitch. Quit being so petty and get the real facts. Quit listening to failed promises and get the real truth for yourselves. Quit listening to clelbrities. Quit listening pundits. Seek the truth. It will set us all free. Although, it is probably too late for our small business and many others, it may not be too late for you to be snowed under by slick politicans. Quit listening to what you want to hear and seek out the truth of how things really work in a free economy. Take responsibility for your own actions. Otherwise just go to blogs like this and call women bitches, and men SOB’s and live in your little imitation soap operas.

  357. I wanna be like Helen when I grow up :)

  358. Okay Doodyhead,
Write as much as you want. Bottom line is our country is in a terrible state of affairs and we need a change. Even John McCain went for the government bail out. I repeat government bail out. He should have voted “no” no matter what if he is for “small government”. He cannot have it both ways. Sorry.

I am voting for real change which is Obama. My husband and I make a great living and would financially benefit more from McCain but, our country needs help right now and the middle class is the backbone of our economy. That is being witnessed right now. I do not hate Sarah Palin and McCain, I just don’t share their political beliefs.
I respect everyone’s views and agree that bitch is too strong, but, I agree with the overall message.

  359. Helen, you have said everything that I have been feeling lately! This woman is the opposite of someone who cares about their own family, never mind gender. She has no morals, ethics, or backbone.

Thank you for such an honest post :)

  360. What a way to start my week!
    Helen….You are the best!!!!
    (hello to Margaret as well)

  361. Doodyhead dood,

I have a small business and did great during the Clintons reign. One man with one occasional employee. When Bush came along is when my fortunes started heading south. Nothing the Bush admin did helped me in any way. Just hurt. Republicans brought on this problem especially jerks from Texas who brought us Gramm, Leach Bliley act that started this mess. You are in serious denial.

  362. Why are Palin’s daughters not going to school? But they have time screwing around.. so much for family values. Why did Palin get ultrasound and other tests before baby was born? Shouldn’t you get whatever baby God gives you? Palin is a 3-piece crap from hell. Helen you are absolutely right. I wonder what’s wrong with folks who see good in her venom-laced cranky toxic-filled sxit coming out of her mouth. For the good of this great country please step down. You do not belong in the Whitehouse along with jack-ass McCain the Moron.

  363. ROCK ON, HELEN!!!!!!!!!!!

  364. [...] wish I could get Margaret and Helen to post this, but FRL will have to do: My Place Of Work even has a little more documentation work [...]

  365. I LOVE IT. Just one correction. Palin is stupid by Arkansas standards. We Alabamians thank G-d for places like Mississippi and Arkansas.

  366. THANK YOU for saying what so many of us feel but can’t. You have exposed the Republican Party for what it is. They pander to a bunch of phony self-righteous cowards who hide behind their opposition to abortion because they don’t have the courage to truly support human life through diplomacy instead of wars, affordable healthcare & economic security for all instead of windfall profits for corporations and lower taxes for the wealthy. McCain was a decent guy until he stooped to their level by selecting Palin.

BLOG ON Helen and Margaret! Please tell us more about yourselves and how you started blogging. Count me as your newest fan!!

  367. Way to go Doodyhead you’re right on & they can not take it/
At least there are a few smart people around.
    THANK YOU DOODYHEAD

  368. Seems like you have all the accolades from the peanut gallery that you need. So here is something for you to consider… what exactly is it that upsets you so much about Palin?

Without resulting to name calling and demonstrating your own lack of intelligence… what are you comparing Palin to that warrants your one-sided and clearly misconstrued perception of another person?

I could care less about Palin/McCain or Obama/Biden so take this with the correct intent. When we sink into a hole of name-calling what are we really debating about? Certainly not someone’s capabilities because Obama is clearly less capable then Palin… but we just sound like the same moron you are complaining about spewing venom in hopes of gaining acceptance. Remember what your mother said… “If you can’t say something nice… don’t say anything at all.”

  369. Your a senile old bitch!

  370. Karen,
I can take comments from Doodyhead. I just do not agree with the politics. I respect the comments from all intelligent people and Doodyhead seems like an intelligent person but I disagree with the politics.
Scott I don’t agree that Palin is more capable than Obama, but, I agree with you on being civil when we talk to each other. Thanks for your comments.

  371. You ‘betcha’ Helen.. I completely agree with you and more. I think I could have perform as well as she did if I had been tutored and coached on the few issues she did answer questions on. Did you see how she looked down at the podium, she probably had a blue tooth device in front of her with McCain aids prompting her on what to say.
As for ‘Mother of the Year” ha ha, did you see after the debate her youngest daughter holding the baby ,looked like she was about to drop him!!
I am so looking forward to Nov 4th.
Ms. Sarah Palin doesn’t represent this Walmart mom or my Husband ‘Joe six pack.”, hell we were drove to drinking during these Bush years……..
Sarah go back to Alaska, and continue to be an outsider. Go help you 17 yr old make the best of this situation, and marriage isn’t the answer. Two wrongs do not make a right……. How bout Miss Helen Philpot for VP!!!!!!

  372. Beautiful.

  373. Also,
I am glad that Sarah did relatively well in the debates. I was really questioning, like everyone else, her ability to communicate. I am voting for Obama and wanted her to do better so that Biden could show how much better he is over her and McCain. She made some good points, but not enough to make me vote for McCain.
I vote for the person that makes sense to me. Like I said earlier, I am a black woman and I do not vote according to color. When Jesse Jackson was running, I would not have voted for him. He was not intelligent enough to get my vote. The comments he made about Obama brought that out.
Obama and Biden are two smart people and get my vote.

  374. Sarah Palin is one of the biggest idiots I’ve seen lately. I cannot believe that ANYONE ANYONE can get nomineed for vice-president of United States. I”m so sick and tired of the news media riding her cock so hard she didn”t do anything she didn”t say anything. The only reason why John Mccain picked her is to pander to woman; SHE EVEN SAID IT HER SELF! well you aint getting my vote, if Hillary would”ve been on the ticket with Borak we would”ve never known who Sarah Palin is. Damn Mccain its fine that you chose to pick a woman as your running mate but did it have to be a dumb BITCH at that. I hope people look beyond THE BULLSHIT and really listen to what this bitch is saying. There’s no plan on the table for what she and Mccain is going to do for our country. Oh yeah their plan is wait til Obama comes up with his and find some way to hate on it….hmm SHAME SHAME! well there’s defenetly more that i can say about Sarah Palin this is just some general anger that i cant get passed. to those people that are dick riding her you are just as dumb if you can’t see pass the bullshit.

  375. [...] an 82 year old grandmother with an opinion about Sarah Palin.  I highly recommend reading it – click here - Helen tells it like she sees it and I admire that.  I found the link for her post on the SNL [...]

  376. “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?” –Sarah Palin, interview with CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co”, July 2008

“As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border.” –Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008

“Well, let’s see. There’s — of course — in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings.” –Sarah Palin, unable to name a Supreme Court decision other than Roe vs. Wade, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008

“All of ‘em, any of ‘em that have been in front of me over all these years.” –Sarah Palin, unable to name a single newspaper or magazine she reads, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008

“I told the Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ on that Bridge to Nowhere.” –Sarah Palin, who was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it, multiple

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending soldiers out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.” –Sarah Pailn, on the Iraq war, speaking to students at the Wasilla Assembly of God, June 2008

“I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you.” –Sarah Palin, asked by Katie Couric to cite specific examples of how John McCain has pushed for more regulation in his 26 years in the Senate, CBS interview, Sept. 24, 2008

“That’s exactly what we’re going to do in a Palin and McCain administration.” –Sarah Palin, elevating herself to the top of the ticket, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sept. 18, 2008

“Perhaps so.” –Sarah Palin, when asked if we may need to go to war with Russia because of the Georgia crisis, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008

“I’m the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can’t.’” –Sarah Palin, as quoted by former City Council Member Nick Carney, after he raised objections about the $50,000 she spent renovating the mayor’s office without approval of the city council

  377. Well said! And I might add that perhaps one of the most disheartening things about Palin is that she’s wasting an opportunity that few women get. When was the last woman on a national ticket? Geraldine Ferraro in 1984! (and personally, I’d rather see old Geraldine on a ticket again, rather than stupid Palin). In over 20 years there’s only been TWO women on the ticket — we can’t afford to mess up! Palin SHOULD be studying her stuff night and day! Or maybe that’s exactly what the republican’s want — a pretty girl whose not as smart as the big boys, so they can feel in control? All I know is that Palin’s making the rest of us look bad and throwing away an opportunity afford to VERY few of us.

Blessings to you Helen! And GO OBAMA!!

  378. BRAVO!!

  379. Finally. You have restored my faith in the US intelect . I have been worried that we would be making the same mistake as 4 years ago (first time, shame on him…). Your words were harsh, but true. Truth hurts, sheep…I mean non-independant minded Republicans!

  380. WORD, Helen!

I couldn’t agree more. Since when did we become a nation of slack jawed hayseeds making leadership decisions on the merits of whom we’d like to have a beer with?? I have news for these patronizing assclowns: illiterate bumpkins are the LAST people on Earth I want to have a beer with!

I can’t wait until November 4th, when Wasilla gets their village idiot back. Her 15 minutes are UP!

  381. The real issue is: the 3 men who brought down wall street – where are they now?
    1. Franklin Raines: Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor.
2.TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama.
3.JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was
selected to run Obama’s Vice Presidential Search Committee. Would you trust the men who tore
Wall Street down to build the New Wall Street? Don’t know what their hair looks like, or if they wear glasses.

  382. I posted this in another site and, I approve this posting:

“She may not have played the flute butt, she sure was whistlin’ dixie.

She reads well butt, I bet she doesn’t actually know what it is that she’s reading and what it means.

Also, she plays the game of that old “prk” teaser we knew in H.S.
She uses her looks to distract her lack of legitimacy.
I would actually bet that she is the real CONTROLLER in the home.

I’m a single adult hetero male and, I have ALWAYS avoided this sort of female.
They are phony to the core and probably to the corps.
I’m glad that not all women are like her.”

  383. Fair point on the facts Maggie. Good FACT CHECK! Try that with the other side now…oh yeah…that is not a part of the process for the McCain camp.

I have a lot of respect for McCain, because he WAS a maverick BEFORE he won the nomination.

Back to the facts…despite Sarah Palin’s request to not look back…the financial crisis is a result of REPUBLICAN insistance on de-regulation. Lots of money to be made, and too difficult for conservative republicans to turn down. FACT CHECK that. No really…

  384. wow

  385. Helen,
I am very glad that I came upon your site. You see, I was a Republican all of my life. I actually voted for George in 2000. After the last 8 years I feel that I owe this country an apology for helping to bring George Bush to office. I never paid enough attention to politics and voted the way my family always had.
For all of you Republicans out there, all I can say is that it IS patriotic to want your country to learn from it’s mistakes and become better. Our country was founded on the principles of free thought and free speech – there is nothing more AMERICAN than being able to realize your mistakes and then try to fix them.
I’m all for having a female in the white house, but not just anyone. I look forward to the day when we can vote in an intelligent, savvy woman to the oval office. Unfortunately, Sarah Palin is not. I think deep down you know that too.
Our country is in serious trouble. We really cannot afford to continue down the rabbit hole. I desparately hope that we can bring our nation back from the edge. I love this country and I don’t like that we have behaved, as a country, like bullies – immature, spoiled brats. We are better than that.
It is one of the most difficult things to do – admit that you have made a mistake. No one likes to do that. But the most respectable and honorable thing we can do is to look at our failings and work to improve ourselves, collectively, as a nation.
After reading the comments, the name-calling, I see just how divided we have become. I also see how disgustingly racist so many people still are. Let me ask you: do you believe that Jesus was a racist? Do you really believe that God is looking down on you with pride?
I am a middle-aged white female and I am voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I know that we need an intelligent, compassionate person to lead our country out of this mess. We need someone we can look up to and respect.
Whether you are republican, independent, or democrat doesn’t matter right now. We need change!
Helen, I agree with your feelings, and even if I didn’t, I will stand up for your right to say what you believe. That is what Americans do.

  386. Way to go, Leslie!!!!

Helen and Margaret…you two are the best!!!!

  387. Yeah Leslie,
    You are awesome!!!!

  388. Leslie, I am in GA as well. I did curse every Georgian that voted for GW, but you are forgiven. Anyone that recognizes their mistake, and is not swayed by the ongoing scare tactics and name calling (unpatriotic) should be trusted to vote again.

  389. Leslie for Vice President.

  390. I definately LOVE you Helen, and I hope and pray that you will read this as well as many other people will read. Where can i even begin. well as all have noted, this blog may have been harsh but it is very very truthful. i personally wouldnt call her a bitch, however one gentleman noted the instance perfectly when stating that she called herself a pitbull with lipstick, thus, a bitch.

Howver, back to the originaal reason why i’ve decided to post. I read this from someone posting the blog on Facebook and because i am politically ‘inclined’ if you will, i felt it is necessary to express my opinion as every one else has(which i have sat fr the last hour, reading every response). One thing i believe is that Palin has completely disregarded an American Principal that we all know, which is to obtain knowledge!

we come from a country where GREAT, and INTELLIGENT leaders would rise up. Many peoples response to that would be ’shes like us’. well thats why i’ve decided to name this the Other Population. Lets be honest, every person is NOT from some small town, and no disrespect to those people, but I am not the Average, middle class American. I dont know anything about steel work, or much about farming, or anything of those sorts.

Im an African American 17 year old who will have his first oppurtunity to vote. And whats ALARMING, is that i would never vote for someone because they are ‘more like me’! That is Fundamentally what has held this country back for quite some time. To be honest, i would never want someone more like me in office. I speak in Slang majority of the time, think i can accomplish anything and i think im invincible, as most young people do.

Im saying all this to say, what does McCain, or Palin, know about the citizens who will soon take the mantle in this country. Helen has excellently articulated what we all know and need to say. And for the people who state that she doesnt have Class and what not– Ridiculous. not being Politcally Corecct is a treasure that most people will never find in todays world. Do people really want to pass the world on with PALIN, who understands nothing about our struggle to go to school, SURVIVE gunshots, gangs, drugs, and many SOCIAL issues that she rarely has to deal with in a state of 700,000. Also i saw someone say they are the most diverse as well as have the highest cost of living. well statistcally, as i am a statistician in college now, she would have a higher diversity rate because the population is so low. and CALIFORNIA, has the highest cost of living. I get sick of how candidates pander to these states that, yes are great, but dont have to deal with the assortment of issues like we do

i.e. NO BUDGET, which means by the end of October we will have no money to continue funding schools k-community college and ever universities, highest cost of living, the epicenter of the mortgage meltdown, BOARDER CONTROL, which seems to have been forgotten, off shore drilling and environment, some of the worst eduacation rates but highest college prices, as well asan assortment of other issues.

I say all this to say it is ridiculous to believe that Sarah Palin can adress ANY of these problems. I am no socialist so i dont believe government whould barge in, however something must be done and she wouldnt know what to do! There is no way that a 17 YEAR OLD, should know more about politics and the workings of his governement, even though everyone expects you not to, than a grown women!!!

There is so much that this blog brings into existence and the ramifications of us ignoring the issues this brings up WIll be catostrphic!! PLease people WAKE UP!!!!!!
There is no EXCUSE for not knowing what damned magazines or newspapers i read. if im being tortured and there asking me wha cereal i eat, you should be damn well sure that im going to name every cereal on the shelves of the grocery store. COME ONE DONT EXCUSE HER IGNORANCE!!

i can see mexico from california, does that make me knowledgable in foreign affairs? because if it does then i will run!

Palin is a scary as well as stupid women. i’d love to be able to respect her and like her, but even basketball players have to answer questions. What happens if there is a crisis, is she going to say, HEY, im not answering your questions im just going to tell you what i want you to hear MY FREINDS (as mccain would say) that is the WORST kind of politician. i would say more and i propably will later but ive got class lol!

HELEN BRAVO! Can i come for THanksgiving?!?!
p.s. even if a young person DID make this site, you cant say this generation is lost, we are some smart and informerd citizens!

  391. Freddie Mac and Fannie May are just intermediates in this process. The Gramm bill made it so insurance companies and Wall St. could buy loans too. Since they were bypassing Freddie and Fannie, F&F were in danger of becoming irrelevant so they bought too as instructed by our politians on both sides of the bullshit fence.

If you are a banker, you are going to take a few more chances because you know you will sell the loan and there were plenty of buyers out there besides Fannie and Freddie.

That brings the collusion down to the real estate level where brokers, in a world of easy loans, are going to escalate prices to make more dough while convincing home buyers that their stuff is worth more than it is. Home buyers bought the scam because they wanted to. They wanted a house and the “wealth” it generates. They wanted to believe that what goes up never comes down. Wrong. It’s just physics. Being a Pollyanna is easy in such a situation.

I watched “Flip That House” a while back and watched people in CA buy an 1100 ft. ratty ranch house for $510,000 and put 20-30 grand into it and sell it for $700,000!

Uh, what? I live in Maine where prices do make sense and banks aren’t failing so much. We all think these folks may have bumped their heads.

We get into the difference between real and perceived value. When a home price approximates the value it would cost to build it, that is real value. People in CA, NV, and FL in particular, started believing that their property was worth so much more. That, dear friends, will always be wrong.

It broke the back of the enormous (Gramm) republican inspired shell game.

    McCain voted for this.

Until recently McCain had Gramm as his economic adviser. Clueless. We are circling the bowl now. Vote McCain if you want to hear that giant sucking sound heading down the pipe.

Up till now his mantra was earmarks which at most would save a measly 16 billion. Small change compared to what is going on now.

Up till now his mantra was less regulation and the economy is strong. Uh, never mind.

Up till now his mantra was drilling which would not yeild a drop of oil for 10 years. Duh……….

A government spending freeze would put millions out of work. The cure is worse than the disease.

Everybody including me wants to pay less taxes. Anybody can choose to think that way. It’s so easy. In the face of massive deficits and ballooning national debt, like it or not this will not work out. It’s just numbers. The ones we have been pretending don’t exist.

Every man, woman, and child owes $36,666 against the national debt. Who will pay it? No one? Not likely.

You can be a selfish horses ass and say “I will die before payback time”. Maybe not.

I have a child so I think my concern is well founded. Even if I cash in my chips before reckoning day, this is not what I want to leave my son.

  392. Lady, you are one eloquent woman! Bravo to this post!

I’m not an American. But here in my country, we’re also interested and we try to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in the U.S. Presidential campaign. Based on my social network friends and RL friends, most are for Obama/Biden. Well, judging from the recent debates, I bet there’ll be more who’ll vote for Obama.

  393. Brava Helen Brava!! Of all the qualified, experienced, intelligent women that John McCain COULD have picked, why did he reach for the bottom of the barrel.

As everyone has said, thanks for saying what the mass media won’t.

  394. Helen…thanks…thanks for all of us who see through this Palin mystique. The bottom line is, if this is the type of judgement McCain shows in picking her as his VP, then I want no part of it. But I also question Palin’s judgement for accepting the offer to run as VP. I just hope her loose tongue gets her into more trouble (like the Couric interviews) and she completely implodes before the election. I really don’t think McCain will win, but it would be nice to see her go down before the election.

  395. We appreciate reading peoples’ opinions. But, we appreciate facts better than strictly emotions. Just for one, as Alaska citizens, we did not get “$3200 this year.” Repeating false “facts” like this is as bad as the Democrats continuously spouting that McCain has voted 90% of the time with his own party. Just take a moment to go back to the source and check your facts in the actual Congressional Record. Barack Obama has voted with a majority of his Democratic colleagues 96.0% of the time during the current Congress. Meanwhile, during the same Congress, John McCain has voted with a majority of his Republican colleagues 88.1% of the time. And he breaks with the Republicans on important issues, such as voting to facilitate coverage of pregnant women in SCHIP, or to increase the Indian Health Service by $1 billion in FY 2009. Joe Biden is even worse than Obama, voting with his party 96.7% of the time (trailing Hillary Clinton at 97.3%). McCain has voted as low as 76.2% of the time with his party, while Obama’s lowest is 94.8%, and Biden’s is 84.5%. In fact, of the nine Congresses in which McCain and Biden have served, McCain has not once voted more than 88.1% of the time with his party, while Biden has voted six out of nine of those with his party at least 91.2% of the time! So who’s for change here? And you can keep your bigotry to yourself; judging a person’s intelligence based on their accent is way off. It would be as bad as me saying that all those from Georgia are ignorami because of their accent. And by the way, all the critics ought to try listening to the Alaska accent for a change: it’s NOT “Fargo.” I suppose y’all think Canadians speak “Fargo” as well. You and the media (i.e., the Fourth Branch of Government) need to stop basing opinion pieces on rumor and urban legend, and go back an look at the facts.

  396. Sorry, I guess I was supposed to comment on the Tina Fey impersonator.

McCain said he was going to choose a VP strong on the economy (since he openly admitted he did not know that much).

    What happened there?

As his first big decision, not too good at all.

  397. All I can say to all of this, is that this is the country that voted Bush in twice. I would love to see an Obama win, but I can see it going to McCain just through the sheer stupidity of the American people.

Whoever America votes for, is who America deserves. I’m just scared that the rest of the world won’t deserve it. Palin is such a laughing stock worldwide, the shreads of American repsect which are barely held together will be thrown away.

  398. “Repeating false “facts” like this is as bad as the Democrats continuously spouting that McCain has voted 90% of the time with his own party. ”

Well, if you didn’t make false claims about Democrat claims….

They said McCain has voted with bush 90% of the time, which he has.

  399. Bravo, Helen! As at least one other person commented, it amazes me to see a post like this from an 82-year-old grandma from Georgia. Palin has scared me from the moment I first heard of her, and you have eloquently explained why she scares those of us who think for ourselves.

Also, kudos to leslie above. Her post could have been written by me, especially the first paragraph. My Daddy was a Republican, so I always voted Republican until Bush made the mistake of speaking out against stem cell research. That’s what finally made me open my eyes and admit to being the political liberal that matches my liberal personality and beliefs.

  400. maggie biers,
    You wrote:

You got that in a viral email and those lies have already been debunked. Do your research before you vote please.
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/fanniemae.asp

  401. I’m terrified that there are people who still support Palin and that there is a chance she might make it into national governance.

  402. Helen – That was a fantastic post! My dog even thinks she’s an idiot! You need to be on TV!

  403. When we say change, we should say change back (Democrat).
McCain voted most of the time with a president that was dead wrong most of the time. Most people DO agree that he is one of the worst presidents. McCain agreed with him most of the time. That is the bottom line. State all of the facts and figures you want. That is the bottom line.
That is part of why I cannot vote for McCain/Palin.

  404. Can we also mention that she can’t stop saying “nucular,” not unlike some other idioit already in office??

  405. Ha, that would be “idiot” not “idioit”…doh!

  406. Thank you for your words of wisdom – I only wish more folks would use their brains to figure out what’s really going on here! I am absolutely ashamed of the party that I have called my own since I have been able to vote, and will for the first time ever, be voting for the Democrats this year. I was was surprised at the choice of McCain initially, but when the party decided to endorse this air head bimbo as their pick for VP, I tossed in the towel. No thanks! I love the thought of an engaging, intelligent, well spoken woman in the White House, but this one certainly isn’t all those things! Let’s hope more folks come to their senses before election day!

  407. http://www.cnn.com, 10/6/08

“Stocks plunged in early trading after a deepening financial crisis in Europe heightened worries about a global economic slowdown. The Dow shed 300 points, dropping below 10,000 less than hour into the trading day…”

8 years of George Bush; McCain voted with him MOST of the time.

How far is it down to the bottom of this financial abyss, and who will survive it financially intact?

  408. Brava darlin’! I almost completely agree with your assessment of the ignorance and frightening potential of Sarah Palin, but since when did someone’s accent still matter so much? I carry my Appalachian accent with a necessary pride considering there are people like you constantly criticizing things that you don’t seem to understand … you complain about the Beverly Hillbillies polluting someone’s English (the brand of it that you seem to be espousing) and you don’t even know how to differentiate between “less” and “fewer” … Alaska can only have “less” of something that can’t be counted, like spinach or unnecessary intolerance. Anyway, both users of southern English, African American Vernacular English, and other forms of this beautiful language, in case you haven’t learned, have valid forms of communication. By the way, I love the Mary Tyler Moore reference … she’s bigger than corn in these here parts =) Thanks for saying it like it is =)

  409. Someone linked to your blog entry from our forum at http://thechurchofgroove.com/, and I wanted to jot a quick note of gratitude for saying what many, many of us have been thinking and saying.

And you called McCain an ass wipe… I nearly peed my pants! I love it. That happens to be one of my very favorite pejoritives.

    Anyway, thank you lots.

    Jeffrey in St. Louis

  410. Check out this great video:

  411. Wya to go Helen! I love it! You are spot on!
Go Obama! I am voting this week as we got our early ballots already.

  412. Agree with Helen, am sort of sorry her personal blog is getting spammed. But, there you go. I’m contributing to the mess.

I think at the end of the day we have to discard the idea of Democrat or Republican and what that stands for. It’s gotten too out of hand, to the point where it’s just name-calling and assumption. If anything, this election has made me realize that both sides make mistakes, and both sides are polarizing radically to the point that either extreme is disastrous for our country.

At least at this point the House and the Senate are primarily Democratic, so if by some horrible twist of (electoral vote, NOT POPULAR VOTE) fate we get McCain/Palin, there will be a checks-and-balances system in place. America has been through rougher times, and has weathered the storm. We can do it again, if we have to. As long as it takes for people to wake up and smell the suck.

Personally, I’m voting for Obama, because I believe him. I’m loathe to say that I believe a politician, period, but he seems to be a better fit for what our country needs: progress and change. Not more of the same.

  413. Yeah Pamela

  414. OMG that was halarious, however true!!!

  415. Yes, please….keep thinking us dumb hicks from Alabama are stupid. We are so unsophisticated. The I trio:

    Incestuous
    Illiterate
    Ignorant

Now where’s my Sears and Roebuck catalog? I gotta go out back to the outhouse beforen I go to work at the Mercedes plant…..

  416. Doodyhead,
You appear very passionate about what you’ve done to help kids and run an honest business. I’m sorry you’ve seen such hard times.

Can you give me specifics though about what Bush did, what did he implement to help small businesses that the Clintons did not? I just would like a little more specifics to begin my research that you suggest we all do. What legislation was passed to by the Bush administration that helped small business owners? This is not a rhetorical question. I’m truly curious.

As a military vet, I don’t feel that John McCain has the temperament and diplomacy to keep our country out of harm’s way. He’ll continue this war with no end in Iraq and may even start a few news ones with countries that tick him off. Palin scares me a bit too because of her radical “this is the end of days and we need to prepare for the arrival of the people from the lower 48, who will come to Alaska to ride out the end of days”. She’s accepted the fact that she’s living in the years of the apocalypse and will see a world war as “God’s will”. I am a Christian, but I don’t feel like these are the end of days. I believe that none of us have the knowlege to know when the end of days are coming, but there will be signs. I haven’t seen the biggest sign, which, according to my beliefs will be the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, but I digrees.

I really don’t want either one of these people with our nuclear codes. I think McCain is too prone to tantrums and Palin, with her beliefs and naivete in foreign affairs will see the first sign of a global war as, “Well this is it” instead of trying to thwart it.

I guess that’s where I’m coming from and I truly feel that I’ll be sleeping with one eye open for the next four years with these two in office.

  417. Politics haven’t changed much – issues throughout the years have always polarized the people; colinization, slavery, boston tea parties and more recently same sex benefits, and stem-cell research and the list goes on and on And it’s nothing new to see religion and faith having such an impact for some in selecting our next President.

Republican or Democrat, name-calling or mud-slinging doesn’t make you sound very intelligent when speaking for or against any particular candidate. That goes for the candidates as well as bloggers who choose to bash them. So cut it out.

So what, Helen called Palin a b*tch. This is HER blog, to HER friend. It was seemingly never intended for public viewing. Leave the woman alone, she’s entitlted to her opinion. And if you don’t share that opinion, respectfully disagree and go find a forum to which you feel more inline.

But for those of you who have chosen to engage in verbal volleyball over which side is “ignorant” or “immoral”….please. You aren’t arguing points, you’re arguing platform. It’s disgusting and counter-productive.

I’m not going applaud Helen or bash her opinions either. I pay VERY close attention to politics and weigh the facts. I don’t watch programming on CNN or FOX news and make decisions. I attend rallies. I read journals (all of em, you know, that are in front of me), I research, I listen. I encourage all of you to do the same. Hopefully, you’re smart enough to figure out if this post is directed at you.

And to the person who posted: Obama/Biden, Osama Bin laden…. give me a break. I got another one for you. Santa, Satan same letters – but seriously…who among us thinks that Kris Kringle is really the anti-christ?

  418. Thank you and keep writing!
    Your words give us hope.
    Ginny Wallace

  419. Thank you Helen, for standing up and speaking out against this joke of a woman. It is highly insulting to all Americans that the republican party paraded this clown onto their ticket. All, especially woman, should take offence to Palin’s “bullshit” and be afraid, very afraid of what she, they, are trying to sell.

  420. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, Helen! That was absolutely fabulous. I’m a registered Replican, have never voted Democrate in my 28 years of voting …. but, this year is changes. I’m voting for Obama/Biden. Thank you for saying/blogging what’s been on my mind for the last month. I’ve added you to my regular online reading, so I hope you keep posting.

  421. Helen, you are what I want to be when I am 82! Thank you for making my day :-)

  422. Your blog was funny, but don’t mistake it for true or anthing less than partisan favoritism. Gov. Palin might not have an ivy league legal education or have been the governor of a major state, but she is far smarter than you make her out to be.

She’s well spoken and DOES have executive experience…maybe not for NY or California, but that’s executive experiece that Obama, Biden, and McCain have NONE of.

A little is better than none if you ask me.

Also, Biden focused SOLEY on legislative practices that he would institute as VP, but someone should tell the senate’s #1 expert on “foot-in-mouth” that once your VP your job is not to legislate.

Of course, being the socialists (nice word for Communist by the way) that Biden and Obama are I’m sure they will be doing plenty of legislating from office.

By the way, please tell Senator Obama that a you can’t functionally be president of the United States by saying “present” every day.

  423. Helen…..I love you!
    Goshdarnit…I needed that laugh!!!!

  424. You are awesome, Helen! Thanks for the great post.

  425. But mark…whats so funny is that you’ve stated that biden wont be working in a legislative aspect, well is palin WERE to get elected…
if i recall correctly Executive isnt the first bullet point on a VP to-do list
they are mostly concerned with FOREIGN AFFAIRS, which she has no experience on…?
    hmmm doesnt add up

  426. There is nothing wrong with exchanging ideas back and forth. If a blog gets us to talking that is a good thing. God Bless America. We have freedom of speech.

  427. Thanks for a wonderful post.

    Perhaps Palin should practice Abstinence.

Wish my 82 year old Mom was so cool!

    Cheers.

  428. Thank you for saying what many of us are thinking. I fear that there are many out there that are not as worried as I am. It is hard for a white man (thats me!) to say anything so thanks for taking charge!

  429. Mark,
Watch the VP debates again. It was Palin who said the Constitution gave flexibility for the VP position over the legislature, siding with Cheney and said that she would like to extend the VP’s role in the legislature.

Biden was the one who said that Cheney is the most dangerous VP we’ve had and has been improperly interpreting the Constitution to expand his legislative powers. Biden said that the Constitution was very clear. The only role of a VP in the legislature is to break a tie vote. That’s it! It was Palin, not Biden of whom you speak.

  430. Wow…I couldn’t have said it any better and I am 50 years younger.

  431. I love you. I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU!

  432. here is what mark commented earlier,

Also, Biden focused SOLEY on legislative practices that he would institute as VP, but someone should tell the senate’s #1 expert on “foot-in-mouth” that once your VP your job is not to legislate.

All I have to say is, Isn’t the Vice President the president of the Senate???

    Just a thought!!

  433. Helen, you said it better than I would have thought possible. Bravo!!!

  434. Helen, you are my idol…

I was waiting for someone to say this once and for all. I’m no American but I’m not stupid to the point to fall for that evil smile, she grins all the time. Even when Biden had this emotional moment–My God! She finally has an opportunity to prove that she actually has a heart and not a heartless black widow but no-no. “Keep shaking those hips and smiling girl!” I sure bet that’s what she’s thinking. Please God, someone murder Palin right now or at least injure her and McCain to the point they are unable to move, please..

  435. You need to loosen up and tell us what you really think, Helen!

By the way – well said!

  436. Great post. I hope the idiots who are blinded by propaganda their party is spouting haven’t caused you too much dismay.

As an American, the 2004 election broke my heart. Anyone can be excused for voting for the moron the first time, but the second time was inexcusable. So, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if another Republican was voted in again.

Not that McCain is the worst choice as far as Republicans go, but he is not enough of a “maverick” to go against his party on 90% of what they do. 90% of a Bush administration is still 100% disaster.

Good for you. Enjoy your 15 minutes. And I hope that there are more minutes out there for you.

  437. “Damn I miss Tim Russert.”

    A-F’n-men!!

  438. Well said Grandma! I am glad someone is paying attention to the lies!

  439. Helen is a BITCH… there I sad it! cry me river now! how easy is to hide behind this stupid blog and point fingers….

  440. Helen Rocks!!!!!!!

  441. “Not that McCain is the worst choice as far as Republicans go, but he is not enough of a “maverick” to go against his party on 90% of what they do. 90% of a Bush administration is still 100% disaster.”

    Well said, Henry.

90% OF A BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS STILL 100% DISASTER!!!

  442. October 6, 2008

Thank you Helen! I am a 70 year old retired pediatrician still working part time to help a cause dear to my heart…the survival/rescue of America’s wild horses & burros. Can you imagine this person (and I use that term loosely) advocating aerial shooting of these courageous and beautiful creatures, like she enjoys slaughtering Alaskan moose and wolves. Another Dick Cheney, but worse.

I watched the VP debate. Senator Biden was great! Palin is one big phony. The impact of taking care/responsibility of an infant with life-long “special needs” has not been realized as yet. Palin’s “trophy” husband is never shown holding his son. Why? I, too, get very angry at Palin and all for toting their infant around in front of the public/camera at ALL hours of the day and night. That’s not taking care of his “special needs”. Palin is just now stating she supports children with “special needs”…where the heck has she been all these years!

PS: Palin touts a proud “track record”, yeah, one that is nothing but a massive “bloody tract” in Alaska. This woman has NO compassion. Enough is enough! Humanity doesn’t need this woman or the McCain/Palin ticket! Save our country and Alaska from this person and others like her.

    Go, Go, Go Helen!!!

    Betty

  443. Whether this blog is real or not….it says exactly whats on the minds of alot of people.

To those still blind enough to believe Palin is anything more than a hick puppet, you are in denial. No intelligent person could watch her speak and feel confident in her ability to be a compitent leader of our country.

I know its hard to admit you’re wrong…but do it for the sake of your country.

  444. Excellent blog post here, a friend of mine linked me this. It honestly scares me the number of people who say “Oh, she was so EMOTIONAL and ENERGETIC. She was so EXCITING and Biden was so BORING.”

Granted that I really haven’t seen all that many Palin supporters, every time I see anyone say something like that (and I’ve seen news articles use those exact words as well) I really want to just smack those people and say “You’re basing your vote on that? Seriously? Politics isn’t supposed to be fun and games. The Vice President’s job isn’t to do a little song and dance number to keep you, the people, entertained.” President Bush makes me laugh every time he appears on TV (in the words of comedian Gabriel Iglesias, “I don’t have to make fun of the President, he does it by himself.”) but I think an approval rating of less than 30% speaks for itself.

I wasn’t all that interested in the election aside from mild interest in Obama up until the point Palin was named VP candidate for McCain, but when a man who regularly criticizes his opponent as lacking experience takes a total political novice to stand by his side in a presidential election (and, by extension, proclaim said political novice as an adequate successor should something happen to him – and let’s face it, God forbid but odds are pretty good something will happen to him if he gets elected) I have to sit up and take notice.

  445. WOW! This blog is Amazing….You hit the nail on the head with Palin.

  446. Unfortunately, people are already talking about her running for President 4 years from now — which is really my BIGGEST fear. I’m afraid she will appeal to a certain segment of society that feels left out — folks from what my Grandmother called the “other side of the tracks.” You’re right — we DO send our children to school to learn how to speak properly. What happened here? And since when did a journalist find it OK to murder the King’s English? None of MY journalism professors would have found that acceptable.

Good for you for standing up and saying what so many of us are feeling. I hope we’ve given her enough rope to hang herself.

  447. To add to my post, I couldn’t bring myself to read every single comment but I read a pretty good number of them. Has there been even ONE person here that’s tried to defend Paling using logic and reason, rather than the old ad hominem standby?

If you don’t like what Helen has said here, prove her wrong.

Go ahead. Give us all the FACTS that prove Helen wrong and show us that Palin is the ideal candidate.

I’m waiting. And if what I’ve seen here and elsewhere is any indication, I’ll be waiting a long, long time.

  448. Helen,

Thank you for reviving my faith in humanity, especially the older generation of America. I have oftened wondered lately how the Greatest Generation could be so fooled by these despots when they are so much like the ones that your generation fought off in World War II.

God Bless You and bring you many happy years to come!

And my apologies for those rude members of my own generation for their bullying ways; brownshirts all. May they be defeated and crawl back into their holes, God willing.

  449. Palin a dumb? You betcha.

  450. Well thank you for basically saying anyone that speaks with a southern accent is stupid. We really don’t have a great choice for the next President or Vice President. We are stuck between two choices that are less than desirable. And I did want to vote Obama until I read his book “The Audacity of Hope” in which he states how “surprised” he was to have made it to the State government let alone Washington. He is on a journey. I believe him to be a good man but a man that needs another 12 years in the Senate. He can only serve 2 terms and then would be an ex President. Why not spend 12 years in the Senate and then 8 years in Washington. On the other hand McCain is not a barrell of rose petals either.

My point is this, if Palin was old you would say she was droopy or in need of a facelift. She is a beautiful woman and contrary to your comment she does not have an “ample” ass. Most of America is overweight and I would love to have an ass like hers after 5 kids the youngest still being a baby. You can’t handle that she’s attractive and young. I doubt that she is stupid, although it’s true she is not a brain surgeon. Hillary Clinton could easily have run this country and comments about her are that she is too tough, or too cold. You just can’t win can you?

You seem to be pretty good at spitting out venom.

  451. Everyone’s found your blog because you’re hilariously astute. Thanks for representing Texas ladies so well! :)

  452. Amen Alex. Helen may have called Palin a bitch….but she backed up her argument with facts.

Palin defenders have only called Helen names and left it at that.
I’m open to hearing a good pro Palin argument.

  453. Helen- thanks for speaking up for all of us “regular” people. “Educated American” should get a real education (where does he think Osama got his start, hmmm. Can you say CIA and the Senior Bush as head of that august organization??). Also, Bush (junior) led us into Iraq because of personal reasons, not because Saddam was a real threat to U.S. (I’m using senior and junior to delineate one from the other. I do know the names of these presidents. I don’t claim to be fully educated on every subject, but, then again, I’m not running for V.P.)

  454. Yahoo! I like your point about how this reflects on what John McCain really thinks of women.

The scariest part of the debate for me (aside from all her weird, forced “Surging Maverick” talk and strange references to Reagan and out-dated cold war era gibberish, is the fact that she still couldn’t answer what the vice president does and she believes he/she can use whatever amount of power they so choose. Also, why is she even running if she has a history in the Alaska Independence party and spent the entire debate talking about practically no government involvement. Please, please, say what you mean and just get the heck out of government and be a total Washington outsider–the world would thank you for it.

  455. Thanks Helen for saying what so many of us Americans are feeling.

Bravo…this needs to run on Fox News…*wink*

  456. Helen,
Thanks for speaking your truth. You go girl!
I have trouble understanding how citizens of this great country of ours voted in a “C” student after a Rhodes Scholar. But, excuse me we didn’t actually vote in a “C” student the first time, did we?
Anyway, I digress. I too would like to have an intelligent president and vice-president. Governor Palin, as a candidate, is a joke (as a vice-president, is a nightmare).

  457. Thank You, Helen!!

Your blog has made my day!! You said exactly what I’m thinking.

  458. You are fantastic. I believe that you hit every nail on the head where Palin is concerned. I have two beautiful daughters and fear the set backs to womens’ issues should she become VP.

  459. Wow, you guys have been friends 60 years? Almost as long as my kid sister and her best friend, who met in kindergarten. Ok, that’s only a bit more than 50. And her best friend now lives in Alaskas – and guess what? She hates Sarah Palin!

Sarah Palin is everything women have fought for 50 years to get past, to be judged on our talents, our education, our skills, our experience, and not on how well we deploy physical accidents of nature. I am sure some will bristle at your description of Palin, but to me, she’s not pretty at all but repellent, largely because it’s hard to seem pretty when you are willfully ignorant, vindictive, hypocritical, untruthful, arrogant, smug, mean and ruthlessly ambitious. Ugly on the inside, ugly on the outside.

  460. Awesome. Simply awesome. You’re amazing.

  461. I love this! Anyone who is voting for McCain/Palin is one of two things………….
Ignorant or Racist. Choose your own destiny…. And actually, the two are one in the same at the end of the day. Doesn’t matter that McCain is on the ticket anyway………he’s a heart attack away from being 6 feet deep and then the idiot is our President……….Oh, good Lord, please have mercy on our souls………….

  462. “I’m open to hearing a good pro Palin argument.”

So am I, MuM. My post came across as belligerent, I know, and that’s because I’ve basically lost all hope in anyone coming out in her favor using logic. But I’d actually love to be proven wrong about that.

  463. You are awesome! Thanks for saying it like it is. I would like to nominate you for President of the Sarah Palin is an idiot club.

  464. I second the nomination!!!!

  465. So impressed with your article Helen! I can’t sleep at night wondering what’s going to happen on Nov. 4th… I only hope this country doesn’t make the same mistake we made 8 years ago…

  466. Helen, I whole heartedly agree with you! Thank you for posting what so many of us are too “politically correct” to say..!

  467. Love the blog but Helen, uh-uh, honey, no the correct term for Sarah Palin is cunt.

  468. GOD LOVE YOU! CAN YOU ADOPT ME! Right on ladies! My nine year old son saw through her bull in a second, yet everyone on Fox news is practically worshiping at her feet! I wish more women with moxie would stand up and speak the truth about this woman. I cringe when she is upheld as an example of leadership!

  469. BRAVO!!! Why won’t the media say exactly what you have so eloquently stated? They will put anything on television these but they will not call this woman out for what she is. My 11 year old is more articulate than she is. THANK YOU!!!!!

  470. Well said, Helen! To find this blog all one has to do is search “Palin + bitch”… heh, heh. And then one person emails another… or a few thousand! It takes off from there.

Hope the rest of America wakes up soon and helps to take our country back. Support the troops, end the war!

    Peace.

  471. You rocccccccck. This is the funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life. You are amazing! I am 22 years old and couldn’t have said it better myself, your wisdom knows no bounds and I bow to your greatness!

I hope my generation and future generations learn to be more effective in the world and look for the truth instead of being ignorant and consummed with themselves…

    Rock on CHICK!
    OBAMA 08″

P.S. Sara Palin is a Stupid BITCH! oh wow it felt good to say that and it doesn’t make me a sexist! after all she is responsible for the return of dark aged inspired women’s rights….A wag of the finger(thanks Colbert) to Sara, animal killin, gun tuttin Palin!

  472. It must really suck to be fat, ugly, and old. the jealousy in the crap of an article is hilarious..

  473. Brava and well-said!

Congratulations, Helen, on making such a splash on the Internet! As for how so many people found it, it’s just that people who read it loved what you had to say so much that they told their friends who told more friends.

I’m sorry for the idiot people who can’t disagree with you on any reasonable grounds but have to resort to name-calling.

And as for the people who think an 82-year-old couldn’t have written this, I disagree. A few years ago I had the pleasure of having dinner with journalist Helen Thomas (now 88). She is whip-smart and pulls no punches. Her criticism of the Bush administration is both acerbic and insightful.

So I can have no greater compliment than to say Helen Philpot reminds me of Helen Thomas.

  474. yes, I whoteheartedly agree; a bitch. But….I’ve taken to calling her a wolverine; known to be the most vicious and tenacious of arctic predators. So, I know a female fox is a vixen, a female cat is a queen. What is a female wolverine ? I’m guessing it would be the same term as either a badger, weasel, ferret or otter, since it’s in the same family of mammals.

  475. Helen, you go girl! Say what you mean and mean what you say!

Isn’t that really what all of us want from our candidates? The only candidate I have seen this from is Obama.

I read on a list this morning that back in 1988, a young woman was at the airport, she was going to join her new husband in another country who had flown ahead of her. The baggage check person informed her that in order to take all of her luggage it was going to cost her an additional $103 dollars, that she did not have.

The check person wasn’t about to change the rules for this lady. A young man spoke up and paid the $103 for the lady. She insisted he give his name and address so that she could send him back his money when she reached her destination. He wrote it on something she stuck it in her pocket. She did return his money.

The young mans name was Barack Obama, his address was in Kansas where his mother lived at the time. The mother of the young woman wrote to flash forward, Sen Obama years later to thank him for his kindness and to let him know that her daughter did well, Sen Obama responded in kind.

This is the kind of man we need leading our country. Someone who truly knows how to step up and do what is right. Someone who knows how to care about those who are in need.

I am paraphrasing it all, if you want to read the actual story follow the links below.

    http://www.vg.no/nyheter/utenriks/pr…p?artid=527005

  476. Sara Palin is a stupid BITCH! And it’s not because she is not at home with her kids, but because I know more about politics then she does and I don’t know much. It is so true that she needs to be at home with her “First DUDE” and her children. They need her. Her daughter, who is with child at the tender age of 17, is not on the seen anymore. And yes, her baby should have been in the bed at 11 o’clock.
Helen, thank you for saying what the media won’t say. Palin was a dumb move and McCain showed how SENiLE he is getting. How stupid is he to think that we as women will vote for an AIRHEAD as Palin.
    Once again, thanks Helen…..

  477. My hat off to you, my sentiments exactly!!MCCain/Palin scarieeeeeee!!!

  478. wow, what an intelligent comment! let me guess – you’re voting for mccain/palin!

  479. I think 2 words that are missing are vapid and cunning….She’s a vapid cunning bitch who is ignorant, but definitely not stupid. Her act should not be underestimated.

  480. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  481. THANK YOU THANK YOU for saying what every bought and sold journalist is too afraid to say. See you can’t fool all the people all the time.

Thanks for your wisdom and your honesty. And please continue to tell it as you see it ladies.

    VERY BEST TO YOU!

  482. Gosh… for a moment there I really thought Americans buy the crap sold on tv…

Helen the blog is great but you’re merely stating facts.

The really impressive thing is to see how many ppl are asking Americans to wake up!
Were u guys sleeping or something? cause hei, creapy stuff is happening (8 years of self distruction just went by, no one noticing)- and that’s just someone from a third world country speaking

  483. Helen you’re a breath of fresh air. What we need is more plain talk, not “folksy” baby talk nonsense from Palin. She IS a bitch, a mean and vindictive one at that. And McCain is a senile old coot. The fact that he would choose someone as wildly unqualified and uneducated as Palin seriously calls into question his ability to make informed decisions. After reading the Rolling Stone article, it would appear he is also a borderline personality as well.

  484. I want to take this time to say, “Hooray.” Someone who speaks her mind!!! Love it…. Keep sharing your mind with your audience.

  485. BLESS YOU!!!!…my dear, for saying what we all are thinking and keep yelling at our TV’s…your comments only serve to prove that with AGE comes WISDOM. I couldn’t agree more about Palin and that BITCH on the View…Elizabeth….I’ve been e-mailing Barnara to get rid of her for sometime now….THANK YOU!!!!!!

  486. LOVING IT!!!! GO HEAD GIRLS!!!

  487. Wow, this is a greattttt blog, and the best part is that it comes from an older generation which in most cases would side with the republican party!!! I’m glad grandma called palin out on her BULLSHIT!!!!!! I love the way you talk Helen!!!!

  488. Please people-don’t use those same STUPID expressions Gov. P. does when she’s trying to show a cute(?) actually very stupid side. It’s like “nails on the chaulk board”. Good for Suffian, Jason, Frank, “tool guy”-real men. As for Larry, John and James…

go get a lap dance and leave everything else to Helen and friends! Stay away from what is intelligent and important!

  489. OMG – I howled with laughter while reading your article! You are saying what SO many of us have been thinking if not saying quite so well as you :D EXCELLENT!

  490. Thank you!!!

  491. Thank you!!!

    well said, Helen… well said.

  492. McCain’s slogan “Country First”. That is why I’m voting “Obama/Biden 08″. We need an “organizer” to organize this mest up country of ours. We need “Change”. God Help Us, we need it.

  493. An excellent blog entry here from Margaret and Helen. Every single word of it is true.

I have no political affinity what so ever in this coming election, and I myself would always choose the very best candidate,(s) and not the party.

McCain, who left High School as almost the very poorest achiever out of a total of nearly 300 students, is extremely unlikely to be a clever or intelligent man. In fact one only has to listen carefully to what he says, and observe him over time, to be able to conclude that he’s just an untruthful, manipulating, empty-box.

Many men who are even much older than McCain, and I’m talking 10 or 15 years older here, still have fast moving brains, and sharp minds. McCain, at 72 years old, seems to be decidedly the opposite; lethargic, slow, and with an amazing lack of real, up-to-date, off-the-cuff, information stored in his brain. At times, I have even thought that I noticed a degree of senility, or worse; and I mean that sincerely.

He seems to know little or nothing, is confused sometimes, and he mixes things up occasionally: And never forget, he is briefed very thoroughly by expert aids before any speech he makes. His only ‘virtue,’ as he sees it, is that he loves everything to do with wars and the military.
That he was shot down 5 times during the Vietnam War, and that he was imprisoned and tortured by the Vietcong in their own country, whilst being regrettable, is neither here nor there.

John McCain would actually love to become (very)high in the military, but he knows he is not clever enough to even get close to such a position. The Presidency is for him a means to an end: For him, to become Commander-in-Chief, means that he ranks higher than the highest military position. This is his dream I suspect.

McCain’s copying of almost everything that Obama starts doing first, is beyond laughable, it’s downright pathetic.

McCain being already over 72 years old at present, over 76 years old after any possible first term as President, and over 80 years old, should he stay for two terms as President, means that the V.P. choice is extraordinarily important in this election: Much, much, more important than the choice of a V.P normally is.

Not only do I agree wholeheartedly with all that these two ladies, Margaret and Helen, have written here about V.P. choice Palin, but I’d go even further in my criticism.

Without resorting to expletives, it is not easy to express oneself as one might wish to, regarding this awful person Sarah Palin.

One can comment with conviction that Mrs. Palin is an extraordinarily bad choice for anybody’s V.P..

It literally amazes me that someone like this woman could ever have become mayor of anywhere, however small, let alone Governor of Alaska.

Mrs. Palin is seemingly a very, very, simple, low-level, illiterate, uneducated person, with little or no knowledge about anything at all. However unlikely this might seem to be. (to me too!)

Whenever this ‘Pitbull with lipstick’ (as she describes herself) opens her mouth, without being able to fall back on prepared-texts made for her by other people, either learned by heart, or written on cards or on a Teleprompter, she flounders terribly, and not only seemingly knows nothing, but doesn’t know which words are used where in the confused babble she exudes.

Sarah Palin is a verbal desert whenever it is required of her to speak with any content, or answer even the simplest of questions: Poor woman.

The real level of the Mrs. Palin and her husband can also be deduced by the seeming lack of any remote idea of how to bring up their children and interest them for any degree of a decent educational level and a good life later; not to speak of any acceptable social level.
Keeping their young children up so late at night to be able to display them to the public, shows again a deficit of any normal intelligence or knowledge level. Amongst other things, sleeping on-time is essential for childrens’ brain development.

I could repeat here the many, many, negative things, any interested party has seen and read already about Mrs. Palin, but I’d be here all day.

    A couple of thoughts though:-

It does appear that Todd Palin was very frequently in the governor’s office, also during interviews and other meetings, which I find very odd. It might be the case that he, and not Mrs. Palin, had effectively been running Alaska: I wonder?

Shooting living creatures from a helicopter, and wounding them horribly, and leaving them in agony to suffer and die, must be the closest a human-being can get to the Devil; except for those who like doing similar things to humans in war-situations, although the pain and the suffering will be the same.
It frightens me to the core that such an atrocious individual could easily become President, if McCain were to be elected.

McCain’s father and grandfather both died before the age McCain is now. I.e. they never reached the age of 72.

Therefore, even before taking account of the 6 years McCain spent imprisoned, with poor food and being tortured by the Vietcong, there is a very large chance that he will die and need to be replaced by his Vice President.

This is why much more attention must be given to this lady, before it is too late. A disaster would result; even though McCain himself would be a huge risk to the American people, due to his infamous short fuse and terrible temper; both of which have been reported widely.

  494. This Palin bitch is sooooo stupid she thought the Scopes Trial was about mouthwash.

  495. I agree with Helen , all the way, everything she said. Oh my God!!! It’s so nice to here that someone (”with all do respect”) white, really can see this thing clearly, with out making a pile of (#$@@%$#^) L.O.L. Thank you Helen, you’er like a breath of fresh air to me! Thanks again. I LOVE YOU FOR THAT, Jocelyn Harris

  496. Dearest Helen,
Thank you for saying everything I have been feeling! You are an inspiration to all of us.
My BFF Michelle and I are going to be just like you in another 40 years!

Yes, that Sarah is some “mother”. She doesn’t deserve the title of mother in my opinion. Keep up the great work!

  497. Helen, I have to tell you, YOu are an awesome lady! My pal becky and I (friends since 16, we are now 40-ish), totally agreee w/ you! I admire your spunk, and tenacity. I hope Becky and I are as politically aware as you are one day. Keep up the good work, and encourage all to vote for McCain/Palin-NOT!!!!! Thought I woulld make you laugh! Hang tough Helen!XOXOX Michelle

  498. Perfect post! I wish my mother was like you. She is like many religious fundamentalist with eyes shut, hands on ears… nah nah nah la la nah nah… She’s Christian! She’s Christian…therefore God wants her to lead our country. Just like they did with Bush.

Yes, I agree totally with you, Helen, that Sarah Palin is a BITCH, but guess what? I am sure she is PROUD t
